9 Reviews of the Apache 3

Why was the now obsolete Apache 3 seen as a starter tent? Mine has seem amazing service in good weather and bad and is still, nearly 20 years later,as solid and reliable as it ever was - and that was good! A solid and reliable tent in 3 seasons but - alas - no longer available new. Made in England once - developments are now made in China.

We got this tent specifically for garden camping. I can pitch this on my own in less than 20 mins. The porch groundsheet is attached to the bedroom inner. We always use a tarp underneath the whole tent to make it easier to keep clean/dry. We have slept 3 people in this on a couple of occasions and it's ok. Condensation is a problem, especially in lower temperatures, but it dries really quickly with the doors open. Not sure I'd like to use it as a 'week away' tent unless I was on my own as storage would possibly be a problem.

We have found this tent to be very reliable and easy to use. It is light (4kg) and packs small enough to easily go in our backpack along with other stuff. Has never leaked despite being out in heavy rain. I have had three adults sleeping in here, it was fine, but don't expect to fit your stuff in too! We also used for two adults and a child PLUS all our stuff and we were comfortable and warm even in cold weather. Of course we were travelling light anyway since we don't have a car. Has a couple of inside pockets for arranging stuff and a loop to hang your torch from. The porch is the only downside, it is big enough for your shoes, but since it isn't linked in, they can get wet if it is very heavy rain/wind. I believe newer models might have fixed this though?

Great starter tent that will last! You don't have to pay a fortune, but this is a quality tent made for British weather!
It doesn't cost much because it's heavier than some other tents; for that, it has a good tough groundsheet.
Better for two than three for an extended stay, but certainly possible to sleep three.
Nice headroom, porch is great for storage or careful cooking - fire retardant fabric.
Easy to put up, even by yourself. Decent pack size and a great carrying bag. Recommended.

We would recommend this for 2 people for a short break - 3 would be too snug unless you were all small! We put it up in a matter of minutes and as it's so light we find it easy to carry on our bikes. The porch area is really useful for storing the cooking equipment etc. Last time we used it, it rained for 2 nights and we were really snug and dry inside.

We bought this tent to take on our first cycling/camping trip. We went with a 3 man as my husband is 6'7' so needs a bit more space. The fact that it is so light made it appealing and the long carry handles were an added bonus as it can be carried like a backpack. We arrived on site just before 7 and were set up, washed, changed and in the pub by 7.30. Easy to put up, spacious for 2, and a great little porch area which stored our panniers nicely. No complaints whatsoever.

Bought this tent for a trial run camping. Paid £30 and for the money it was a bargain and is very good quality and relatively easy to erect. Spent two nights, the second of which it rained quite heavily but it kept me nice and dry. Porch a little small and found it relatively difficult to get in and out of, but that is due to a my minor back problem and being 6ft I found it could have been slightly bigger for me when laying down. However, cozy for one person, snug for two but unless you are very good friends too small for three !.It was a good experience but I will be upgrading to a larger tent.

30 quid from Argos, and a bargain, took 2 of us 13 mins to erect. Did a one night stay near Keswick, so the rain is guaranteed, everything spot on apart from rubber pegs, and a tiny porch, would like to see a bit more space, and a more vertical front door. Other than that, nice and snug, and felt secure

Very comfortable for one, adequate for two, very snug for three. Used this tent for two nights, rained each night throughout and not a drip. Small porch area ok for some storage. Can't stand in it but knew this before I bought it, so can't complain. Paid £29.32 for it and I think it was a real bargain. I would recommend this tent for one or two night stays without too much kit.
