2 Reviews of the Findhorn 4XL

Our first forays into the world of camping were in a trailer tent which we loved very much and only sold on because we hadn't the space to keep it. We then bought a Vango Oregon 600 which we used for a couple of years before deciding that it was a little 'oppressive' when the weather was poor. Our next purchase was a Vango Nile 600 which did everything we wanted and which we used up until July 2014 when it sprung a couple of small leaks whilst we were camping in Wiltshire during the truly horrible storms that month.

This weekend, we tried out our brand spanking new Lichfield Findhorn 4xl on a couple of nights in Hampshire. We couldn't believe how quickly we got the tent pitched. The quirky pole system is a dream to set up, although I would certainly say that two people would be better able to keep the main pole steady whilst the others are attached. The inner tent is spacious and took our two single campbeds and the dog's basket with no problems at all. Head height is excellent and visibility is extraordinary. Although considerably smaller than the units we've been used to the Findhorn provided enough space for us, the dog, two full height folding tables, a 2/3 height table and two quest wrap around chairs; plus all the stuff I can't live without, even when camping!

The air vents and meshes are superb, particularly the mesh panel in the roof, which came as quite a surprise to us but which was very useful in keeping the tent aired and cool.

We only had a couple of heavy showers so difficult to comment on waterproofness but a 5k hydrostatic head should be able to handle most conditions.

At first, I didn't like that the mesh on the doors and the doors themselves had separate zips but I got used to that very quickly and I think I've decided that it works for us. The small 'head height' windows are a bonus.

I don't think you'd want more than two adults, or one adult and a couple of kids, in this tent but that really depends on how you like to camp.

All in all the Findhorn 4xl seems to be an excellent 'small' tent.

For months now I have been searching for a tent that ticks all my boxes:

Lightweight

Small pack size

Easy/quick to pitch

Sewn in groundsheet

Mesh door covers

Large bedroom and living area

Standing height throughout

High specification and waterproof rating

I have tried them all - Vango, Coleman, quechua, khyam, Outwell, regatta premium. Nothing fit my bill until I purchase the litchfield findhorn 4 XL. It is truly brilliant. Works off the three pole tied arch system plus one pole for the bedroom area. Very easy to put up and quick too, but I would advise having two people to erect it as the central pole needs holding up while you fit the others onto it. It pegs out easily and does not have hundreds of guy ropes to worry about.

I bought a package deal - tent, carpet and footprint that was on special offer at £180. It was a total steal at this price! With a 5000 hydrostatic head and quality zips/materials you are assured of a dry and comfortable night. It is really roomy inside and has standing height throughout. The bedroom fits two double airbeds no problem and the living area leaves plenty of room for all you kit plus a table and chairs. I would advise getting the canopy as well if you want to cook etc, but the front door does open up to form a smaller canopy area, although canopy poles are not included.

The carpet and footprint are a must for any length of stay as they really do add to the comfort level. The tent has a large door window on the front plus large side windows and two head height 'sky light' windows that are very nice to have. There is a side door as well, which can act as an extra mesh covered door to let more air in. There are lots of air vents - one large one at the rear of the bedroom, two low level vents each side of the bedroom and one large mesh panel in the roof. Plus the two large mesh doors = one very well aired tent. We slept in it only last night and had a lovely, cool nights sleep. The bedroom inner is also much darker than any others I have tried- really helps with those bright mornings.

This is a 10/10 tent all round. I love the design, colour - it looks great. I am very happy with all the space and the many windows and vents that allow plenty of air and light in. It's easy to erect and just as easy to pack away. Without doubt the best tent I have ever used.
