2 Reviews of the Madrid 5 DLX

By: UsualCampers  Reason: I own(ed) one  Made in: 2006   Rating:

Got this tent on an auction site, brand new and never used for a fantastic price. This is our 3rd tent, we have previously owned dome tents but got fed up with crawling into bed and bending our bodies in half to move around!

This tent is fantastic, so much head height in the 'living' area. We have the 6 DLX version which comes with 3 rooms each sleeping 2.

Went camping last week and thoroughly enjoyed it and could have stayed longer because the tent was so much more comfortable than our previous ones!

If you get an opportunity to buy one don't miss out!

We own one of these tents that we managed to buy off an auction site second hand yet barely used.

It comes in 2 zipped bags with the poles and bedrooms in one and the flysheet and ground sheet in the other.

It takes approximately 30 - 40 minutes to erect with 2 people which is quite a simple affair as it uses rigid steel side poles that connect to flexible fibreglass over-poles.

There are plenty of attached guy ropes although there are more in the peg bag if required.

(Manufacturer quotes this tent as being tested to gale force).

This tent also has steel side strengthening poles that run from front to back for excellent rigidity as well as material belts which connect to the the base of the steel uprights.

These material belts run across the width of the tent at floor level and they can easily be hidden under the full ground sheet.

The bedrooms, of which there are two separate inner tents, are easily hung using a toggle and loop affair, and consist of a 2 man and a 3 man bedroom which hang at the rear of the tent.

Both the bedrooms have a zippable fly screen window on the door.

The ground sheet, although not sewn in, is the full footprint of the tent and extends all the way to the back, underneath the inner tents and comes with 3 special flat tent pegs to hold it in place using holes in the sheet.

A massive bonus for this tent is that the complete front wall can be unzipped and removed or, even zipped 1 panel back to give you a porch on the front of the tent with ample space inside for all your camping equipment.

It has 4 exits which are a front door, a front wall and 2 side entrances, one is on the left and the other is on the right.

It has impressive height, being well over 6 feet high so even the tallest of campers won't need to be constantly bent over.

We used it in the snow and rain of early 2008 in the U.K. With no problems at all.

We have had 10 people sitting on chairs inside with room for more.

Our other campers liked the tent so much we have inspired friends to buy the 6 man version which is also available and built to the same excellent standard as the 5 man version.

An excellent tent for a family or group, or just a couple who like room around them.

We can heartily recommend this tent if you are searching for something a little larger but with better head room than most on the market.
