8 Reviews of the Vermont 6 DLX
By: Stampy Reason: I own(ed) one Made in: 2001 Rating:
We bought our Vermont off Ebay for a bargain price. I had always been a bit dubious about proper canvas frame tents - I always saw the negatives. They are heavy, bulky, difficult to put up alone, need reproofing, need to be bone dry, etc etc. I went for this one for one reason - my friend had one, it looked pretty with fairy lights round the outside. I was sold!
So, the first time we put the tent up, darkness was setting in when we went for a weekend camp close to home in September 2010. We arrived on the site as dusk was fast approaching, and ended up using headtorches as our only light. That says it all really - we had no problem at all. The previous owner had colour coded all the poles with electrical tape and it was so self explanatory. We can now do it from unrolling to pegging in about 15 minutes.
I love the bedrooms in this tent. We use it for just the 2 of us, because we find the fabric divide isn't really adequate when our niece comes with us. It gives ample room for a kingsize aerobed, wardrobe, luggable loo and still has room to move around.
For the living area, I use a tarp as a groundsheet, with the carpet from my other tent over the top for comfort. It is perfect for the 2 of us. When we have camped with friends, 4 of us in there is a bit of a squeeze.
The kitchen 'annex' with its fireproof fabric and ventilation is fantastic, it means we can cook in the tent on our shorter breaks.
It is also so much quieter than our Outwell poly tent. I never realised how noisy that was till comparing the two. It is also much warmer than any of my other tents.
My grumbles would be -
1) no sewn in groundsheet - makes for a muddy carpet and creepy crawlies in the living area - yuk!
2) Lack of storage pockets - I suppose I am spoilt with my Outwell, but I am used to lots of pockets.
3) Lack of natural light - With the canvas being dark blue and green, and the curtains being fixed across the window, I find it is sometimes too dark.
Overall, it is an excellent buy. My favourite tent of the 4 we own, I have to be persuaded heavily to use any other now!

I had not camped for about 17 years and last year I decided to buy a frame tent. I bought the Vermont 6 off ebay for a bargain.
The tent is heavy to carry and comes with the poles in a separate bag.
On our very first outing I found this tent very easy to erect took two of us no time at all. Once pegged this is a very strong, sturdy and waterproof tent that does not move even in strong winds.
The living space has adequate room for a kitchen unit, table and four chairs, still leaving plenty of room for you to walk around, it gets lovely warm and keeps the heat in.
The bedroom is one inner which divides into three sleeping compartments. With their just being the two of us we divided it into two and had our very own ensuite which I can tell you was wonderful. We also managed to fit a queen sized double air bed in with plenty of room and a small wardrobe.
This tent is perfect for camping and our needs but people with families may find it a bit cramped there would be plenty of room for four but any more will be a struggle.
On the whole this tent is well worth buying I love this tent even has curtains for the window. The only way I would part with this tent would be if we had a family of four or more.

This has to be the best tent we could have hoped to own, loads of space, not very difficult to put up and take down. Great quality and very durable. The only down side is you need a fork lift truck to lift it, the bag of poles is exceptionally heavy and the canvas itself is weighty. But this is of little concern if you can find someone strong to carry it for you.

Love this tent had 3 years with it all in bad weather but it was great, never got wet! It has a great foyer, great for playing board games. We even took the dog cages and still room for table and chairs. It also has a kitchen, bad luck for me a lol! So if you are thinking of a tent big family, this is the one for you!

Had this tent for about 6 years now and have used for annual holidays each year since, very happy with tent and feels solid when put up. We have 3 or 4 people normally which is no problem but think might be bit cramped with 6 people. Tent still in good condition at 6 years old and looks good to last many more years, would definitely recommend for family of up to 4 although could sleep 6 at a push.

Excellent all year round tent, that does what is says on the label, sleeps 6 easily and no problem with space for us, a large family might struggle but the normal camping brigade is 2 adults and a few whipper snappers who are usually small made.
Good value for money and very reliable although my dog chewed a bit of mine last year.

A cotton frame tent the Lichfield 7DL a good work horse of a tent, come rain or shine. Heavy to erect and put away if wet but that said won't blow away in a gale!
I'd take issue on the 7 berth aspect it is only really adequate for a family of 5 once you've got clothes and all the gear!

I was impressed with the simplicity of this tent. It is a Cotton Canvas Frame Tent, and consequently it is heavy, but once up, it stays up! we have taken this thing to a few sites where the wind has been quite strong, and we have watched a few 'Argos Specials' bend and break, but ours was safe and secure, like a big blue and grey Limpet.
It is simplicity itself to erect, and is easily accomplished by just two of us. Once up and pegged down it gets warm and snug very quickly.
Now the downside:
This is described as a six berth tent, and yes, you could squeeze three double airbeds into the sleeping compartment, but that would be it. There would be no space for clothes etc. (I believe that the living area would be just as cramped if you had to find space for six to sit, and that would be without cooking gear and tables!)
The sleeping inner is one piece with roll up dividing walls, which we rolled up and put two airbeds in, and used the space between for wardrobe and clothes.
This is a six berth tent which in reality is only big enough for three or four.
If Lichfield had marketed this as a four-berth tent, then I would have awarded it 9/10, but I would imagine new campers with more than two kids would be dissapointed by lack of space.
