2 Reviews of the Macpac Minaret
By: DB50 Reason: I own(ed) one Made in: 2001 Rating:
I've owned this tent for around 16 years, used in the Himalayas climbing/trekking, UK, etc. It has been fantastic and I'm still using it. The ground sheet is the best and the violet flysheet nylon is like new even after all the UV. I think my legs will give up before the tent does, I'll have to include it in my will.

I have a Macpac Minaret Expedition from the NZ based company. Its the same as the Minaret but mine has snow valance and has the usual 'high altitude yellow' fly.
The tent has been used for a number of activities, 4 season camping (including extreme wind/blizzard) on the Cairngorms and Highlands to summer motorcycle touring round Europe. The tent is in my opinion the best 2 person tent available and the newer model now on sale is even better. The bathtub ground sheet is tough as old boots, the fly flaps slightly until all the guys are used then its rock solid. The tent can honestly be erected in under 10mins and as in can go up it one go you don't get the inner wet. The tent is extremely light for backpacking, used on the coast to coast and Pennine way numerous times. Never leaked. Never damaged by weather. This is a real serious tent that can stand up to more extreme conditions than I can these days and it will lasts years. Excellent.

Manufacturer's Description
A supremely versatile and user-friendly 2-man tent, strong and stable enough to cope with snow and high winds, yet light enough for regular backpacking and trekking. It's two hoop tunnel design is very quick and easy to pitch, requiring only a minimal number of pegs to create a very stable and reliable shelter. The inner can be unclipped at front to temporarily increase the porch space when required, giving more room for organising wet gear or sitting out bad weather. Macpac's Multi-pitch system allows inner and outer to be pitched together (for speed and convenience) or separately - inner only for insect protection, or outer only for lightweight rain protection during light-and-fast adventures. Other features include top-quality DAC Featherlite NSL poles, UV30 silicone elastomer ripstop nylon fly, and double inner door for insulation or venting as required.
Minimum (in use) weight: 2.1kg. Packed size: 43x14cm.
