3 Reviews of the Bantu 5 Air

What can I say about this tent? I bought the Nomad after our previous tent sank (!) whilst camping in the very wet 2008, and I got fed up with lack of space and wet clothing etc.

This tent is WONDERFUL! I agree with all of the comments above - it is heavy, and it does need two people to pitch and pack, it definitely isn't a touring tent. But what it does provide is plenty of living space for the 4 of us for a week or two, its warm and dry when its cold and wet - extremely important, its cool when its hot. It is extremely versatile in that the front can be rolled right back to provide plenty of ventilation, the inner curtain provides privacy which keeps the living 'quarter' separate from the cooking clutter/bedrooms, it can be shut down when wet and the porch provides extra shelter from the rain (essential for camping in the UK)

I have also bought the porch, and a side awning to provide extra shelter for the kitchen. We have yet to use it on the continent, but did use it 3 times in the UK last year. It's not cheap, I have a degenerative condition so don't know how long we can use it for as a family, but it was the best buy I have ever made!

I have had this tent for this last season and used it 4 or 5 times and it is excellent.

The tent takes 5 people and has 2 living areas separated by a zipped in curtain that can be removed to provided one large living area or a smaller living area and private sleeping area for privacy (we use this setup as living area is plenty big enough even when split.).

The tent takes about 40 minutes to pitch. It is heavy as it is polycotton so needs 2 people in my opinion. It is easy to erect with 4 lots of poles supporting the tunnel tent. The poles are strong aluminium. It has a zipped in groundsheet and 2 sleeping pods one for 2 people and the other for 3 but his can be divided into a 2+1.

The tent is well ventilated with plenty of options to let air circulate and also has zipped curtains for privacy. There is an additional porch you can add which is well worth purchasing due to added shelter and a good place to cook.

The tent has stood up to wind and rain with no problems and as it is not nylon makes little noise when the wind starts blowing.

We think the quality is excellent and look forward to using this tent. The only downside is the weight and size but if you know this before buying it is no surprise.

This tent doesn't come cheap but you certainly get value for your money. The makers really thought about everything. Plenty of Windows which can be covered with blinds and meshes on both sides. Superb ventilation. The front can be zipped off and suspended with the awning poles (also included). It gives you extra luxury and space. The ground floor is zipped in and keeps unwanted animals, insects and rain out. The tent is very strong and can withstand serious bashes of wind.

It is a heavy tent to carry but the poles are packed separately from the rest so you have two bags. The groundsheet, poles, fabric, etc. Are also individually packed so you are free to stuff your car in any way you want without hurting your back. The reason for it's weight is the fabric which is cotton instead of ordinary canvas. Cotton doesn't need extra sprays, has a natural breathing quality and keeps the temperature in the tent acceptable all the time, when it's cold or in the sun.

When stored in a dry place, cotton lasts a lifetime, canvas doesn’t. Canvas deteriorates from the UV-radiation of the sun, cotton doesn’t.

The inner wall is also a very good idea. It separates the living area from the sleeping/clothing area thus guaranteeing your privacy. I like this tent and I’m sure it will last for a lifetime.

Manufacturer's Description

The 'Air' range uses non-coated cotton blended with polyester (35% cotton/65% polyester), maximising breathability and reducing condensation

The Nomad Bantu 5 Air has a spacious living area with a zip-out dividing curtain to create one large or two separate living areas, especially handy when the children have gone to bed.

The two separate sleeping compartments are well thought out and the larger compartment can divide again to provide a storage area or single sleeping compartment. Large windows provide plenty of light and have privacy curtains; the three doors can be rolled up, and the side doors each have a separate mesh door. This tent oozes quality, luxury and space, and is destined to provide years of family camping fun.

With the Bantu 5 Air you are no longer just camping you are temporarily living somewhere else!
