1 Reviews of the Masai 2 Air
By: Brookwood100 Reason: I own(ed) one Made in: 2010 Rating:
I bought this tent specifically for a Scout Moot in Kenya in 2010. However, it proved to be far to heavy to carry on the plane and I ended up paying £130 to get it there and then managed to foster it off with one of the Scouts to get it back!
It is a fantastic tent. Plenty of living room for two, or three without much of a pinch. Generous sleeping area and living area. Excellent storage pockets in the inner compartment and on the outside edge of it too. Very handy.
It's made of lightweight cotton so is excellent in all conditions.
Highly weather resistant, has withstood three weeks in Africa and five further camping trips since then in the UK with no problems. Only the net in the sleeping areas lets it down - we ripped it by tripping over the bottom zip so need to get that fixed.
It kept all the 'dudus' (bugs!) and monkeys out in Kenya and the mozzies out in the UK. It is my tent of choice, even though we also have 2 x 3 man nylon pod tents, a 4 berth frame tent and a 6 berth frame tent.
I put it up and take it down on my own, which I liken to putting a rhino into a cardboard box, but I can do it in about an hour. Even if I would win no prizes for neatness .
Lovely and warm at night with excellent ventilation and cool in the daytime.
Love the zip-in ground sheet. You can unzip it to let the breeze in the day, as long as you don't mind squirrels, or indeed, monkeys, joining you! However, it is a complete pain to put in and take out, takes longer than the rest of the procedure. The zip gets stuck on the corners and no amount of pulling or pushing will make them go. This lets it down big time.
Overall, the it is the best tent I have ever owned. Shame we don't have a 6 berth version for the rest the family!
