2 Reviews of the Touarec 5 Air

By: Twigrose  Reason: I own(ed) one  Made in: 2006   Rating:

We searched for a while to get a tent with the spec that we wanted. The Tourec is flexible and can fit 4 in the main sleeping compartment. It is great quality too, with decent metal poles (although the extra porch has one metal and one fibreglass). It is more breathable than nylon and cooler in hot weather too.

We have travelled all over Europe with it (in a large car!) and haven't seen any tent that we would want to swap it for.

If you want a tent that gets loads of people talking to you this is it! My wife persuaded me to part with the best part of a Grand (including the porch) however it has proven to be worth it, you get what you pay for.

You need a big car or trailer to take this with you, Technical cotton is heavy material. It takes 30 mins for 2 of us to erect it (we are 50+). It has loads of room for 2 and we use only one of the single inner tents as a storage unit.

We have camped in extremely hot weather and it is fantastic as it is much cooler than our old polyester tents. We have also experienced a storm from hell and it stood up to it better than we could have imagined.

The manufacturers have produced something that is imaginative in its ability to adapt to different needs whether there are two people or up to five. This is the best tent we have seen anywhere for our needs.

'Flexibility' is the key element of the Touarec's design. When you're camping with the family, you never know what the weather will throw at you: blazing sunshine, torrential downpours, gusting winds. The Touarec's variable arrangement of sleeping areas and sheltered communal space - along with its multiple doors, awnings and optional porch XXL - mean you can quickly adapt to the circumstances. Create a shelter for a family of five or a super-spacious base for a group of three. Whatever you need.

The tunnel design and ring-and pin and inner tent suspension system make the Touarec surprisingly easy to pitch. Hooped poles maximise living space and allow you to stand upright - even within the sleeping areas. Large windows double as ventilation panels and can be zippered at night for privacy. Lots of other features make life simple, such as the zippered electricity cable gate and large organiser pouches. The fly fabric in the Touarec 5 Air is made from a highly breathable yet water-repellent Technical Cotton. This makes it the best choice for use in warm climates.

The DAC aluminium poles are renowned for their superb strength/weight ratio. They slide easily through pole sleeves and provide unmatched resilience in strong winds.
