2 Reviews of the Mountain Creek Tipi 340 LW
By: KimC Reason: I own(ed) one Made in: 2014 Rating:
I took a chance on this one as I wanted a tipi with an inner for a reasonable price. Easily purchased via PayPal and a bit of Google translate, as the company is Dutch.
The tent arrived within 4 days and was well packed. As the previous reviewer said there are no instructions,so it was a bit trial and error putting it up.
Though it goes together well and I managed it on my own in about half hour.
To agree with the last comment the groundsheet is a bit thin and I think I will put a tarp underneath the insulate it a bit.
The central pole is thick and of decent quality with a rubber foot and the pegs are heavy duty rockpegs- the groundsheet ones are the wire variety, but not the cheapest I've seen. The height of the pole isn't as tall as on my previous Indian lake teepee, but that isn't of detriment.
The sewing is good and reinforced where necessary. The inner has a mesh or nylon door. Then there are 4 clear windows with nylon curtains or zipped mesh. Further down the walls are 4 vents that are extenable outside, again covered in mesh. All vents are zipped.
I put this up in my garden a couple of nights ago and it has been through awful thunderstorms and rain with no issues at all.
In regards to space we are a family with 2 adults and two children and there was plenty of room.
It could easily be put up as one and will make a good family tent.
I've scored it 8 out of ten for thin groundsheet and lack of instructions. But quality is typical of Dutch tent deign and yes I'm pleased with it and can recommend it.
At the time of writing it was £183 including postage from the Netherlands.

Searched for a roomy tent with close to standing height and erection possible for me alone.
All this and more is in the MC Tipi 340 LW.
The outer fabric is 3000mm ripstop, inner is ripstop structure, too. Outer carries 4 small windows matching inner double zippered openings.
The inner tent has a sewn in groundsheet (nylon fabric, a little thin) and a double (mesh and fabric) door with zippers middle and below on both.
The steel pole has a rubber foot and a double groundsheet area where it stands.
The erection is easy for one adult and all in one:
- Pegging down the inner tent (10 pegs).
- Erecting pole while catching the inner tent steel ring (protected by separate cover during transport, fine!), the outer tent truck tarp cap and the topcap. Sounds more complicated than it is.
- Pegging down the outer tent (10 pegs).
- Pegging the middle / upper lines triangle (10 pegs).
- Tightening outer tent (spanner on strap to outer peg).
- Raising inner groundsheet sleeve (by spanner on the strap outer tent to inner.
- Pegging out the 4 lower vent flaps (closed by zippers) with 8 pegs.
- Adjust topcap by putting it´s lines to the rings at the outer tent base. 12 lines to fit on 10-edged tent: the 2 at the opening slit should be crossed when closed.
So all in all there are 38 pegs but they can be rather small (some more are delivered and the are appropriate).
The description is detailed because there is no manual whatsoever(at least with my tent, it did lack the top cap when delivered, too).
I manage to handle all of this within 20 minutes on my own.
I had a mesh cover for the top of the inner tent (normally open) added by a local tent company and did put hooks with rubber loops and spanners on the topcap lines to easily handle that.
The tent itself showed an seam on the groundsheet I needed to fix with Silnet and 2´ of protruding filler band on the inner tent.
All in all the quality is fine for the price (at this size!).
So this is a bargain for all that are not afraid of a bit of tinkering around.
The combination of size / ease of handling / price is close to unbeatable.
