2 Reviews of the Peakland Calver 500
By: Helenweddle Reason: I own(ed) one Made in: 2011 Rating:
We bought this tent as a replacement weekend tent and used it for 3 nights in reasonable conditions. We paid £60 from Yeoman's for it, and wouldn't recommend paying any more for this tent. Over the 3 nights we camped, the zip for the side door started unpicking from the tent, one of the woggles came away from where you attach the bedroom to the flysheet, and, most worryingly, the 'cap' over the vent kept coming off. This is quite worrying when you're away from the tent and it rains, as there's nothing stopping the water getting in. Also, one of the hooks that attached this cap to the tent broke.
We returned to Yeoman's and, disappointingly, they have offered us only a credit note rather than a refund. Wouldn't recommend this tent - we were looking for a cheap tent that would do us for weekends, but we got what we paid for!

This tent was bought late season 2011 for a bargain £75. I had some misgivings about the lack of a sewn in groundsheet and in some conditions this might be troublesome but even after a good soaking in North Wales it didn't give us any hassle. The site in Wales was situated at the end of a valley which proved to be a wind tunnel however, despite two days of ferocious rain and gales the tent remained intact and dry. Not so with some of the more expensive tents nearby which suffered broken poles and worse. A good buy if you're an occasional camper but not sure it would stand up to extensive use over many years. Well worth the price though
