4 Reviews of the Slumit Grizzly 4

My wife and I have been using the Slumit Grizzly IIII for several years now. We have used the tent a dozen or so times mostly for long weekend trips, having just returned from one. We have camped in various locations and weather conditions and can safely say it is one of the best all round tents we have owned.

It is not the smallest of pack down sizes at roughly 80cm in length, but a small trade-off for the convenience of the quick pitch setup and strike down. The added benefit is that the frame pitches both the rainfly and internal tent at the same time. We have arrived at camp sites during rainfall, and pitched up within 5 minutes, and the inside has remained dry, much to the relief of my wife and I. There is one extra pole that needs clipping to the front vestibule, but this does not take long.

We can certainly vouch for the waterproofing after surviving several downpours, and would recommend closing the side wall vents during wind and rain. The guides are very helpful, and we try and camp in calm conditions, but there have been times when the gusts have been felt, especially on exposed sites we have stayed at in South Wales, but when paired with the extra guy ropes which we acquired separately with the pre-attached guy ropes, the tent has performed remarkably well for what is a large dome tent.

I'm not a particularly tall guy, and it is not possible to stand inside the tent. I also find removing some of the rainfly from the top of the frame easier to lift and pitch the frame system. Striking down and folding the tent took some getting used to, but after a few goes it became much quicker and easier. Just follow the instructions closely would be my only advice.

I would recommend the Grizzly IIII if you are in the market for a high quality quick pitch tent. I have ordered the smaller version for my solo trips and look forward to testing it out.

Really bad experience with this one. Admittedly my first pitch was in the New Forest and it was blustery! But a tent is for camping in the outdoors right ? Initially I was chuffed as it popped up great looked to be a nice size etc but a gust of wind soon had the legs folding at the joints. I rushed to guy it out to stabilise it but it was obvious that the wind just had the better of it and no way was it going to stand. The pegs that came with it were useless and the ground wasnt even that hard, most bent on the first mallet hit. After fighting it and trapping my finger in a joint, blood everywhere, one of the legs snapped just below a joint ! that was it. I had to drive home. Ruined a weekend away. I know its not expensive but it really isn't fit for purpose. When you camp you have to expect all conditions. I would say this tent is fit for camping indoors !

Following my previous review. This tent has been well and truly tested! I camped in the lake district for a couple of nights from 10/8/18 and as forecast we endured 'thundery showers' and probably a bit worse! For about 12 hours in total. Not a drop of water penetrated except for a small amount in the porch obviously driven between tent and groundsheet by the wind.I did half expect this to happen due to not being fully sown in.The porch itself housed our portable kampa-khazi and it is usable in this small space.

Due to a very wet pack-up.The tent was repitched in my garden and has took another 7 days of intermittent rain without any leaks. And yes I have checked every day!(anorak?) Very waterproof -very easy to pitch and very stable.

I have upped my marks to a 9/10--only holding back for the porch set-up.If only the groundsheet was sown-in right through to the door.

New to me as I wanted a tent with a bit of space to live in which I could pitch single handed. As far as I can see you can only buy direct from the manufacturer who are in the uk and have been established for 10 years now.

As described on their very good website. The tent can be put up easily by one person provided they are close to six foot and reasonably strong. The reason for this is that you have to reach from the edge of the tent to the middle using both hands to operate the flashframe system. It goes up very quickly and a realistic pitching time for one person inlcuding all pegs/guys etc would be around 10 minutes.

The tent is basically a dome tent with a small porch area with a one piece frame on the outside and one small pole to thread into a sleeve to hold the porch in shape.

The outer is a not unpleasant brown colour with thin white trim and two windows with zip-up curtain flaps in the porch. The inner is cream in colour and could sleep four or three with gear inside. There is a full size door with two zips and also a full size no-see-um mesh door to the inner tent.It has mesh pockets along the walls and a small clip-on 'gear loft' type mesh which clips to the roof. There is ventilation and the two vents on the outer can be fastened open or closed and also have mesh inside.

The inner has a sown-in bathtub -style groundsheet which extends forward to cover the porch area.I would have liked to have seen an extra couple of inches either side and perhaps a toggle system to lift and tie the edges of the porch groundsheet just to keep the wind out if needed.

I opted to buy the extra footprint and would advise using one as the groundsheet isn't the heaviest of materials. Packed size is 84cm x19cm x19cm and weighs in at approx 6 kg.Add a footprint and some uprated pegs and your probably near to 8kg. You could split the pack between two or three people but this would defeat the object of the fast pitch system.I think at 84cm the tent could be carried across the back of a motorbike and would be great for one or two people.

I bought this tent for one or two people camping from a car and its good for this .A decent looking tent which really does pitch/pack quickly with kneeling height inside. At just short of £120 direct from the website its not a bad price.Options available are footprint--kingpoles for the front door and extra guylines.

Looking forward to trying the tent in some more usual weather and have held a couple of marks back until then.

A decent buy and will watch with interest to see what this young company come up with in the future.Their smaller hiking tents are worth a consideration if your looking around.
