1 Reviews of the Snugpak Rock Creek 4
By: BeakerUK Reason: I own(ed) one Made in: 2008 Rating:
This is our first bigger tent and we are quite pleased with it. It has a good living space for two people, and the bedroom is VERY spacious. It would be good for two, and as we only have one person in the bedroom it is very big indeed! The bedroom has a half see-through net door, which is good for ventilation but reduces privacy, especially as there are no curtains or blinds for the windows at the front of the tent. We take down the front of the bedroom when there are three people in the tent during the day to enlarge the living space, but I really wouldn't want to try and fit more than three people in there, certainly not four! It is easy to put up - one person could probably just about manage it if they were good at putting tents up, but we can easily do it with two people. You can also use two poles to put the front door up as an awning which is very nice indeed.
There are some really annoying oversights, though. There is no way to cover the two windows at the front of the tent. There is a net window on each side which have exterior flaps which can be rolled up or zipped down (but remain open at the bottom and which flap a lot in wind) but there is simply no way to cover the front windows, and there are no hooks to hang anything on inside, which is very frustrating. So there is no way to hook up a towel or sheet as makeshift curtains on the windows or the bedroom door. When the bedroom is taken down you can use the small toggle-hoops for a central lamp, for example, but it would be vastly improved by having the option to hang things, clip things, or pockets for storage. (There are 4 pockets in the bedroom very low down which I don't find useful). The door seems very badly designed - it slopes outwards towards the bottom, meaning finding the zips in the middle of the night is a nightmare, and then when both sides are unzipped, before you can roll it up or deal with it the door swings inwards and all water outside and in pours onto the floor inside the tent. There is no way to deal with the door without getting drenched when it has water on the outside. Condensation of course builds up inside and can drip.
I imagine it would be fine for up to a week occasionally, or if you are (like us!) just getting into camping, but if you are planning on longer trips then the downsides would probably become real problems. A good, cheap, first big tent for us, but we will definitely get something else in the future.
