9 Reviews of the Starcamper 3

Spurred on by the excellent Guardian review we upgraded to the Starcamper 3 from a 2-berth tent with minimal porch area. We have had many happy times in this tent in all weathers in the UK and only have a couple of issues.

If you open the side door rain comes straight in and drips run down off the roof.

It's easy to pitch and I've managed it alone and I'm not quite 5 feet tall! Pitching it perfectly so you don't get any pools of water on the roof is an art that we're still working on and an extra guy-rope at the back does seem to be helping.

Due to the dog and walking boots we could really do with some porch area that doesn't have a ground sheet otherwise the inside of the tent gets muddy and full of grass.

We've used the tent about 6 times in the last 2 years but it's still in good condition.

We have a lovely dog now but he's quite big so we need more room.

After searching high and low for an occasional tent to use for weekends I stumbled across the Starcamper 3. Used for the first time on school activities week, was able to put the tent up in a matter of minutes with the help of a 12 year old.

I found the tent very roomy with plenty of space for chairs and a table. No problem with leaks (tent was thoroughly tested one stormy night), and the mesh screen on the sleeping pod kept the insects out so I did not get bitten, despite the midge infested campsite! Some reviews have said that the sleeping area would not comfortably sleep 3, but as a weekend tent for me and 2 children it is fine. Would also make a great extra tent to take for the main holiday if the children want their own tent.

To sum up, a lot of tent for a very reasonable price.

Owned since late summer 2008, we have used it in both good and bad weather. We find it ideal for the 2 of use anymore and it would be too small. Can pitch in under 10 minutes on my own. We like the side door and very rarely use the front.

It could do with more ventilation as have found condensation builds up overnight.

For the price the quality is excellent and we like the spares and repairs that come with it (not that we have used them yet!).

I was only looking for a small occasional use tent, and was going around in circles trying to find something that would suit me, and way easy to put up by one person. I was lucky enough to find a website called ukcampsite.Co.Uk, that not only had a very helpful forum that was full of very helpful members that gave great advice, but also had a tent review section.

I was advised to look at the Starcamper 3 from Outdoor Revolution, and after reading the reviews, and comparing them to other tents that I was looking at, the choice was easy. Very soon a box arrived with my new tent inside. (inc postage £87 from ebay).

As one of my Sisters was camping down here in Cornwall last week, I decided to take it to the site and stay over one night, just to try the tent out. In some way not such a good idea, but a very good test. Just as I started to erect the tent, so the strong winds started, despite the obvious problems I got the tent up and looking good, in a surprisingly fast time, due it was my first attempt. Come evening I did start to worry, when the caravaners over the way started to strap down their awnings with storm straps. That night gave the tent a wonderful work out, very heavy winds and rain, me I was snug as a bug in a rug. I would recommend a couple of things though, get some decent pegs, the wire ones are not good enough. Also where you can use the front as a door, there is a gap where it doesn’t fix to the groundsheet, just get yourself some stick on Velcro, and problem sorted.

Overall I think I would give this tent a 9/10, I’m very happy with it

Previously owned a eurohike. This seemed much better and stronger. It looked good and was easy to put up. Initially I was very pleased but it leaked like a sieve! You could see gaps in the seams. I returned it and bought an Outwell.

Just back from a weekend away in Perthshire, and first time I have used my Starcamper3 which I bought in February. I cant recommend this tent highly enough. Very easy to pitch was up in 10 mins in high winds, stood up to torrential downpours with not a drop getting inside, the tent is very spacious more than enough room for two adults. Nice porch area to sit in and the quality and finish of the tent is great. It looks fab as well, all in all I am well chuffed with my purchase

The features I like about the Starcamper 3 include:

1500 high, which is higher than most small tents (important if you haven't got young knees!)

Very quick and simple to put up

Use of bent/shaped poles to maximise headroom throughout

Again, maximum consistent height in the front porch to provide much, much better sitting space than most tents is this class

Full sewn in groundsheet

Both a side and a front door off the porch to maximise options when taking account of the weather eg keeping the rain out or letting the sun in

Skylight (with curtain) on the porch makes it feel roomier and brighter

Ditto the larger than usual front window (also with curtain) on the porch. Also, this window is located centrally on the main front door ie where you would naturally look if sat in the porch. I think virtually all other small tents have small side windows so you would tend to sit looking at a blank nylon wall and have to look down and to the side to get any outlook

I think the Starcamper 3 could be improved by adding one or two more vent options and by stronger poles, but for a tent at this price I think it is an excellent choice for a lower height weekend tent for one or two.

I had bought a eurohike flash mach111 for quick over nighters (and it is a great little tent) but decided I needed something that a little bit bigger so purchased one of these. First impressions are very favourable enough room for two to sit and make a brew and the large front window is great for watching the world go buy. It also appears very well made and is very easy to erect with the help of prebent poles. And finally a bargain price (got mine for £69. On the minus side it is missing mesh on the entrances but so do a lot of tents in this price bracket.

The Starcamper 3 was my first choice after a lot of searching for a replacement for my ageing relum 2 berth frame tent, and not being a wealthy camper the price of(£69.00 inc delivery )was my main reason for purchasing this tent.

When the tent arrived I errected it in the garden and WOW! what a tent .This tent is shear genius and any photo of it does not do it justice .The quality and innovation that has gone in to its design and build is more reminissant of tents costing 3 or 4 times the price.

My mother would have been proud of the stitching and finnish, all the pegging points are renforced and the ring and pin system ensures that the poles stay secure.

At the fist attempt the tent was up in under 15 minuets including fitting the inner tent and taken down again in less than 5 minuets.

Inside the tent it is light and airy with a window in the roof pannel and a large window in the front door .Both with curtains.

The inner tent is roomy and will sleep 2 people in compfort with room to spare but due to the shape of the rear, single air beds are closer to each other at the rear end of the tent, but not a problem if one sleeps accross the tent .A double air bed will fit with room to spare. There is also enough room for a single air bed in the porch area still leaving enough space to exit the side door.

The Starcamper 3 is without doubt the best designed tent I have ever owned and will appeal to those of you that do not wish to share your tent with the local insect wildlife or have a fear of enclosed spaces .An excelent and well made tent with a price tag that will amaze you.
