3 Reviews of the Carolina L
By: Manou38 Reason: I've used one Made in: 2011 Rating:
I bought an Outwell Carolina L last week. It takes 3 days to be carried to France.
I raised it twice yesterday in my garden to be sure I can process alone. It took me 45 minutes.
My two daughters and I have camped this night. There is plenty of room for 3 but I have to agree with the first review. I think this really isn't a 6 berth tent unless if it is 6 children.
We had a seriously hard downpours at then end of the night that it proved the tent is 100% waterproof.
I'm a bit disappointed with the high level of brightness of the bedrooms. Personally I'm not able to sleep without a minimum of darkness. It costs a star.
I enjoy my choice. Recommended

I have to agree with the first review. A very honest description and overall rating for this tent. Would recommend this tent to anyone. More than enough room for 2 adults and one child. Did use this tent in a woodland campsite and the tent was excellent. Easy to put up and down. Two people makes it just that bit quicker, although my husband managed it fine by himself

I had my eye on this newer version of last years Carolina 3 since it first appeared, and bought one in June, one reason being that I have always liked vis a vis style tents, and have owned several in the past, plus I don't really like tents with multiple large windows.
This tent replaced my Minnesota 4 with extension, in itself a very good tent, which I sold on.
I made up my own footprint out of poly weave, saving about 50% on genuine.
I found the tent very easy to erect, usually by myself, and quicker than the minnie, and the ring and pin system for the main poles were easy to fit from the word go.
The pre-angled fibreglass poles slid into place easily, and, new for this year, locate into a sleeve rigidly mounted on the main poles, so the ends don't intrude into the door space, as they did on last years Carolina 3.
The whole tent pegged out smooth and straight, although I would advise purchasing some longer sectioned pegs, as the 6' plastic ones supplied probably wouldnt be good enough on soft ground, or in a strong wind.
Both doors have a large window with curtain, plus a mesh screen.
The doors are situated on a more vertical angle than many other tents, and there is a good overlap on the bottom, so it does not 'blow in' as can happen on doors sited on a more sloping orientation.
Ventilation is provided by 4 small closable vents, 2 on each side plus 2 larger ones, one at each end.
Inside, the 2 bedrooms would be a tight squeeze for 3, I think, but roomy enough for 2. This really isn't a 6 berth tent. I didnt like the way the bedroom pods zipped up, but can live with it.
As usual, I removed one bedroom, leaving me a vast amount of space for living in, with all my stuff easily accommodated, this being helped by the more vertical sides of the tent, which DOES make a difference.
The tent has been subject to more than enough rain this season, including some seriously hard downpours, and has proven to be 100% waterproof, and, during a 6 day trip to Cornwall, stood up to some very strong winds as well !
I didnt bother buying the side extension for this tent, as I found that my old Outwell universal side canopy fits just fine, has rigid side poles, (not fibreglass) and is near enough the same size anyway.
So, overall, a sturdy, easily erected, and spacious tent, (with one bedroom pod removed) that one could use for a weekend or a week or two, comfortably - Recommended .
