After hours and hours of searching online and reading reviews and weighing up options we decided on the Outwell Cleveland 6p as our new tent, mainly due to the size it offered and the price we found it advertised at. For some reason it does not seem to be the most popular of tents and was not produced for a long period of time, I cannot see why.

Setting up the tent was nice and easy as per any normal tunnel tent really with the bedroom pods and “living area” already attached to the fly making things even easier. It was easy enough to setup with 2 adults in 40-50 minutes and even easier last time when we setup with 3 adults. The footprint as a great investment, not only did it allow us to plan out our layout with our surrounding tents it allows the tent to be packed away clean and dry at the end of trips and simply hose of any dirt from the footprint once home.

The panorama room is a great size and the windows allow in plenty of light. On one trip with friends we were able to fit 6 adults and 4 children around a large table playing board games during the rain, it was a bit tight but still allowed up to socialize and stay dry.

The bedroom pods are a good size, we tend to open up the smaller of the 3 pods with the 2nd smallest making one large pod for our bed, the 2 kids then have the larger of the 3 pods with plenty of space around all of our beds. One strange thing is that the divider between the 2 larger pods it not fixed at the bottom. I did not like this at first but for us with young kids it is actually perfect, we can get to them quickly during the night if they wake and its easy for them to crawl through in the mornings.

On the whole we have been very impressed with the tent, the quality is as you would expect of Outwell, the only negatives I have are the lack of extensions however I knew this when I purchased it. The sloping front means the front door cannot be opened in any way in the wet without allowing water in to the floor and if you fail to zip the door all the way down to the very bottom and push the skirt out (which can be a little awkward) it allows water to collect on the groundsheet and then in to the panorama room. We have solved this by buying a tarp and extending this over the front door adding effectively a porch to the front.

To summaries it’s a super tent, understand from the outset the lack of extensions available and if you are happy with the size it offers already then you won’t be disappointed.

First time family camping we spent a long time looking at tents. We visited a shop at the family tent shop in Guildford. Although they did not have this model we did like the Outwell make in general. We bought the Cleveland 6p based on the fact there would be four of us using it and with two girls we needed plenty of space.

Let's start with assembly. I recommend viewing the instructions on the Outwell website and taking some written notes otherwise you could forget. After 2 garden attempts and 2 real camping attempts I would say from boot (of car) to beer (in hand) takes me and the wife with kids getting in the way around 1 hour. It's time consuming but not hard work ( we are in our forties).

Once up the tent layout is great. Starting at the front the panaroma room is where we use to store all kitchen items and to sit in when raining. The middle section the lounge we use to store clothes and acts as dressing area although it does have a side door we have only used when very hot.

The bedrooms at the back are in a 2/2/1 configuration but we actually merge the middle 2 berth and the single berth on the side to make a large double - our daughters have that to keep all their junk in. The other double is big enough for me and the wife with two single blow up beds (essential camping do not get a double you will roll together all night). So the bedrooms have plenty of room.

De-camping takes 45 minstrel and again I recommend keeping notes. The whole tent packs into the bag.

We also bought the footprint which really helps with pitching as you can properly plan out which was to face etc. Also we have the carpet for the mid section which is nice and comfy.

If I had to make negative comments.

The only problem we had was a cracked pole on our second outing. This was probably our inexperience and trying to pitch next to a car and not hit the car. But the pole held despite strong winds and Outwell provide a spare which had we needed would have only taken 10 mins to fix. And repair at the shop where we bought the tent from was less than 10 pounds and took 5 mins.

Other minor gripes.

The plastic pegs great colour coding but are no good if you hit a stone. Buy some spares preferably metal.

The electric access is only on one side and is in the mid section as we use the panorama room as kitchen we bring it in under the flysheet but then to get a light in the mid section we have to run the cable through. It's crying out for cable access between the sections but that's a really minor point.

The above and the lack of a porch add on mean we have rated 9. Let me explain the porch. This tent is huge you will not be short of space. But we did find with a tunnel tent the sloping door meant that in the rain there was no where to sit other than the panorama room which got steamy. If like us you treat the panorama room as dry or semi dry you have to have the door closed otherwise the rain just falls into the bathtub groundsheet in the tent and gets everywhere. This is not a flaw its just the nature of tunnel tents but we will this year by a small flysheet and with some ties and two poles this will sit above the door ensuring it takes rain back onto the tent instead of in the panorama room. Meaning when the English weather does its worst we can sit and watch the world go by. Outwell Cleveland 6p would get 10/10 if they had a specifically designed add on to do this.

You may have gathered from the above we are at the glamping end of camping we like the electric hook up as it means we can quickly boil the kettle have a light in the mid section and to run the small fridge. But have really enjoyed the camping experience when I last camped was over 30 years ago but we are planning the next trip already.

Do your research but I highly recommend Outwell and the Cleveland 6p for roomy family camping.

We were recently invited to go on our first camping trip with friends who had a caravan and were going to lend us a 4 berth Vango tent. Being a family of four and not wanting to be put off our first trip by being in a cramped tent, I started my search for a 6 berth tent to purchase.

After countless hours googling and researching tents online, and having young children, we'd decided that we wanted a side by side bedroom tent and not a vis-a-vis style one.

Now which make and model?

After further googling and reading reviews on this site I had initially made up my mind to go for an Outwell Montana, and started watching used ones on ebay, chose Outwell mainly because of their good reviews, videos and the amount of ventilation their tents offer.

Before taking the plunge and making a bid, I was able to visit CampingWorlds vast outdoor showroom at Horsham.

I am so glad I did, apart from the initial overwhelming selection (If you have never been camping before and are considering buying your first tent online, without seeing them in the flesh, I cannot emphasise enough how important it is to try and get to a shop with a decent display area and have a good look around) on site I was able to see the Montana 6 with an additional awning attached, then I saw the Cleveland 6 WOW, this is a big tent.

My reasons for changing my mind were, it is very similar to the Montana 6 but is like having an awning already attached as part of the main tent. (Excuse me if I am confusing a porch with an awning) The big selling point for me, apart from the masses of space was the full width divider in the tent that has 2 x half height zip down curtains leaving a mesh panel, I live with my wife and 2 daughters and they can't stand bugs, this divider along with the bedroom doors guaranteed no bugs or mozzies got into the bedrooms or the large living space outside the bedrooms, (the divider also offered extra privacy whilst having the door open as a canopy) it also allowed plenty of ventilation through the tent. The large side door to the right of the bedrooms was also good as we could roll this up leaving the mesh screen in place for further ventilation.

At the time of purchase I managed to get the tent, footprint and carpet for Ł475 from CampingWorld with a pricematch deal. I also purchased the Outwell 2m poles so I could hold up the door to make a canopy.

The bag is huge and the tent and poles (without carpet and footprint) weighs nearly 27kgs. We tried a test pitch at home before we went away and soon found this is definitely a 2 person job. As there are no online videos for erecting the tent we started at the back as per the nevada xl video, after laying all the poles out we inserted them into their colour matched sleeves and then tried to raise the poles, we almost broke the poles and our backs on the first go, due to the length of the tent and the amount of material, (Plus inexperience) we did not appreciate letting air into the tent to allow the ceiling to be raised, the tent was almost vacuum packed. After some perseverence we managed to raise the first section and worked our way down the tent, after about 40 mins the tent was up with just the corner pegs and 2 x end guylines out to support the tent.

When we actually went away, we raised the tent from the front first with the door open and found this a lot easier. With some help from our friends we got the main part of the tent erected fairly quickly, then I was left by myself to put all the pegs for the base in and unwrap and set out the guy ropes.

It took me about another hour to peg out all the base, unwrap the guy ropes and peg them out, there are nearly 60! pegs with this tent, with my biggest bit of advice being MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A DECENT HEAVY RUBBER MALLETT AND A PEG REMOVAL TOOL, I bought a cheap mallet and extra peg set from Asda, I'd still be pegging out now if our friends hadn't got a heavier mallett.

I would definitely reccomend the footprint and carpet, the footprint made setting up so much easier and kept the bottom of the SIG clean and dry when it came to packing up, and the carpet just added to the glamping effect.

Whilst away at the end of July we were fortunate enough to only experience a few light showers and one period of heavy showers whilst we were on a day trip, with a completely dry tent on our return.

Pro's: Loads of room, great having bedroom next to the kids and being able to unzip the divider to sort out our 3 year old who would not sleep till nearly midnight, plenty of headroom to walk around without stooping, divider and mesh screens to keep the bugs out and give extra privacy.

Cons: When packed the bag is huge! The number of pegs and time to set up (Hopefully this will improve with practise, on 2 of the nights the temp dropped to around 10 degrees and even with the vents zipped shut on the back end of the tent behind the bedroom pods it still felt there was a downdraft.

Overall I was very pleased with our tent, and like other reviewers on 6 berth tents, unless your on a sleeping mat I think you'd struggle to get 3 in each pod, we had a double airbed in our side and single air beds for the girls, with not much more room to spare.

I am so glad it was a sunny day when we packed the tent away, I'd hate to think what it would be like in the wet.

Hopefully my first review is acceptable and helpful, and remember, for you online first time tent shoppers get to a showroom and have a good walk around before you buy.
