4 Reviews of the Cloud 5

I have had the Outwell Cloud 5 tent, our motorcycle tent, for 6 years now. First the good points, it packs up small and the bedroom section is waterproof. There are two problems with this tent, one minor and one major.

The minor problem is that the fibreglass poles split lengthwise and you find yourself replacing sections of the fibreglass poles about after every other use. I class this as minor because you can buy an Outwell Duratec Do It Yourself Kit containing a number of fibreglass pole sections which you cut to length, I think that I am on my third Outwell Duratec Do It Yourself Kit.

I compare this to the Gelert Atlantis 5 tent, our car tent, which we have had for 8 years and not a single fibreglass pole section has cracked, spilt or broke and needed replacing. Both tents have had an equal amount of use.

The major problem with this tent is the front extension, in anything more than a Light breeze (force 2) the wind blows the angled parts of the front extension and the front of the front extension in wards, and if it rains, water runs down the sides of the tent and straight into what Outwell describe as a “Bathtub Groundsheet” thus forming a paddling pool in the front extension. Perhaps this is why the Outwell have now added a rear door so that you can get out of the tent without getting wet feet in the paddling pool in the front extension.

I have recently bought the Tacoma 5 which is the cloud 5 rebranded for Millets. The price an amazing 75 with discount code! It’s the 2017 version of the cloud and I love it. I go motorcycle camping and struggle with small tents ( at 50 crawling about gets tedious!) the size to pack size is fantastic, the pay off is no sig in the porch are but it has a bathtub that clips in.

The space in the bedroom will happily take 2 double air beds ( with my one single I have tons of space) best bit? The rear door! This means my beloved motorbike can be tucked up safe in the porch and I have access to the tent from the back. Not been used as yet but has been test pitched and trials look good! I own rather a lot of Outwell tents dating back to a 2009 Nevada 3 , Carolina s and m with others along the way. This will be my tent of choice for the bike! Quality and value that ticks all the boxes!

Bought this to replace our Outwell Arizona tent and needed a 'large' tent which could fit on the back of a motorbike, and it was really cheap at £45. I was surprised how tall and big it was, which is perfect for a weekend/short break.

Only downside was the ground sheet and bedroom pods kept unhooking from the tent, but have bought some D-clips and eyelets so hopefully this will not happen again.

After five days of pretty much constant heavy rain with a toddler in tow we were very impressed with the tent. It had plenty of room and withstood the weather well. A few drips mainly from us touching the roof in the front with our heads but otherwise sleeping quarters dry. Plenty of room for three of us and plenty of porch space for us to cook. Overall a great tent for our first outing.
