1 Reviews of the Cougar Lake

We bought this tent second hand and believe we have a bargain and couldn't wait to get out in it. We duly watched the Outwell pitching video several times and had a quick try-out in the garden and though we had some trouble with the middle leg thought we had it sussed. How wrong we were :( Arrived on site and straight away started to pitch our tent as a cuppa was calling :) Unfortunately it took us an hour just to get the tent upright let alone fully peg out the tent and guy lines.Total of 3 hours later .Yes 3 hours. And we were set, sat with a thoroughly well deserved cuppa :) I am sure we caused much hilarity amongst any onlookers from the safety of their caravans ( we were the only tent on site) and am sure will give much more amusement in the re-telling for a while to come!

Our problem was inserting the second locator pin into the middle leg and no matter how many variations on a theme we tried we could not manage it :( and resorted, eventually, to standing and positioning it and in that way we managed to finally insert the last pin, from that point the rest of the job was a breeze. The zip in ground sheets went in fine and are colour coded for ease.

The reason for only 8 out of 10 for this tent is probably only a minor issue to most, but during a day of continual rain it was a constant niggle. To exit or enter the front of the tent you use any one of 4 zips that are located low and forward due to the sloping front, stepping back as you pull the zip up. Re-entering the tent you have to step into the tent as you pull the zip up and with muddy boots etc this is not ideal. Also as the groundsheet in the panorama room only zips in on 3 sides it can be a bit draughty for my older bones even if you use the 'darts' and Velcro which enables you to give the groundsheet a 'bath tub' effect.

We went for this tent as we loved the idea of a separate bedroom area and this is great, tho in my opinion, calling the space between the bedroom pods to be a living room is non-sensical!

In order to have this tent we compromised on having a porch but after this last weekend would look for an enclosed porch in any future purchase.

Having said all of that this really is a lovely tent with plenty of room and the panorama windows are great letting in loads of light and warmth from the sun on a November day :) I do think this tent will come into its own in the summer when you can have the front all open and the issue of draughts and zips will all become irrelevant.

If you can afford it or like us can get a good second hand deal then I would def recommend a polycotten tent as the difference between this one and our previous tent is huge. Much warmer and dried much quicker.

Striking camp was simple and the tent was down and packed away with the minimum of fuss :)

Now all I have to hope for is that the next time we pitch this tent we will have got it down to a fine art and all goes as it should.Just call me an optimist.:)

Manufacturer's Description

A very welcome addition to the Lake range, the Cougar’s Panorama Room helps give it a contemporary, streamlined look on the outside. There are Drying Rails to each side of the spacious main living area, which has a Zip-out Groundsheet, and the two bedrooms are split vis-à-vis style at the back, offering the facility to sleep up to six. The Panorama Room itself has a Zip-out Groundsheet using tough PVC Tarpaulin that is also easily manageable. Practical details include the clever guyline retainer, the ever-present Luminous Guylines that define any Outwell tent, and alternative rear door.

Recommendation: For those who appreciate the benefits of vis-à-vis living and want the superior all-round performance of a polycotton tent with the latest Panorama Room.
