6 Reviews of the Explorer

By: SKILINDYLOU  Reason: I own(ed) one  Made in: 2013   Rating:

Just returned from a camping expedition to the High Peak in Derbyshire. 2 tents with 2 oldies experienced campers, 2 newbie virgin campers & 2 newbie camper grandchildren age 3 & 7. The weather was sunny to start & then the rain threw it down for 30hrs nonstop. The last packing up day was very dreary with rain in the air most of the time too.

Pitching was about an hour for fully secure & unpacking - although we always 'glamp' so more to unpack & so little longer for that lot. There is plenty of room for 2 adults & also with kids there is plenty of room. Son in law had made a camp wardrobe cupboard (from an old gazebo) & also had a mini electric fridge & camping flush toilet. We had a large Outwell 4 shelf cupboard, electric coolbox, mini toilet & a 3 shelf hi-gear cupboard in the living room area. The whole family were ALL in our tent 1 evening playing cards. Filled the area with a table,4 chairs, 4 adults, 2 camp stools & 2 kids as well as the kit already mentioned! Bedrooms worked well. 2 kids & their Outwell kids airbeds, sleeping bags, blankets etc in the smaller bedroom. 2 adults & double airbed + bedding in the larger bedroom. We used the 2 bedrooms as 1 & put a carpet across the 2 rooms. We had 2 fold up camp beds on legs, another 3 shelf cupboard plus our bedding, clothes & shoes & bags sit nicely under the beds.

Both tents were set up with extensions to extend the space. Son in law added a Hi-Gear Sahara 6 canopy which fitted quite well. Gave a great area to store kids bikes, camp kitchen, table & chairs etc. We added an Outwell Nevada front extension & an Outwell Universal side extension. Side extension is excellent for a cooking area & the Nevada extension was great for sitting, eating kids playing etc. Fabulous set up all round considering the very cheap price we paid for the brand new tents in a sale.

Would highly recommend this tent - it stood up well to the whole weather & kids bit.

Room for 3 chairs and a table. Perfect size tent for 2 people who want more space. Inner tent interchangeable. 1 hour pitch time for one incompetent first timer adult with no help from others.

10/10 for good reason. Bought this tent as a customer return. It was described as having missing king porch poles and a leak to the front. So got it for a bargain price. Waited for a bad weather forecast and took it camping to identify where the leak was. It rained for 8 hours straight and no leak what so ever could be found. Not one single drop of water entered the tent!

Had 30 hours of extremely high winds, howling for long periods, the tent flexed, the bedrooms got tossed around, floor lifted, lots of flapping and creaking but it stood up well with no damage and no leaks. My confidence in this tent is higher than I ever expected.

As you can see from the photos tt was the last tent standing on the whole campsite!

Took me 1 hour to fully pitch on my own in windy conditions. Included in the hour was setting everything else up.

The air vents, when closed were a bit drafty, maybe zips would be a bonus but I can't complain given the gale force like conditions outside.

I don't have kids, but the jungle room adds a bit of colour, it's got a beer hatch too, not sure what kids would use it for? Probably for sticking their head out of? Maybe a really small child would clime in and out of it because they can't reach to unzip the bedroom, but I liked it as a hatch for bunging in the untidy stuff.

Whatever you use this tent for, you won't be disappointed with it.

We have just purchased one of these tents even though we already have a big Montana 6 for all the family. The Explorer seems to be all that a family would want. The childrens room & game set is a big bonus. Cant wait to take the grandchildren off camping with it. They will love it.

Score will be updated when we have been out with it.

Fantastic tent for our young family. We found this tent very easy to pitch within about 20 minutes. It always felt stable and secure. We were lucky enough to have decent weather at the time that we used it however I feel pretty confident that it would stand up to much worse weather. The quality of the seams is excellent and having a fully sewn in groundsheet makes a world of difference.

Our kids loved the tent, the jungle style sleeping pod and the games wall were excellent additions and really made their holiday. We recently pitched at a basic site where the games wall especially got fantastic use, both as a target wall for football and also as a badminton / tennis tent.

All in all. Wonderful

Lovell tent very good and practical features. So easy to put up it was raining the first time we tried and the pressure was on put up and in it within 20 mins. The features in it for the kids were fantastic, they loved sleeping in their own jungle and enjoyed the games it came with. Very waterproof, it rained for about 60% of our time but never any wet inside the tent. Thoroughly recommend it for anyone with young kids

Haven't used it properly yet but put the tent up in the back garden to check all the parts were present and correct after ordering online from the family tent shop. All parts WERE present and correct and tent was

An absolute doddle to put up. Took two of us twenty minutes in strong

Winds. Was a good size but adult bedroom won't fit double airbed AND gear. Looking forward to seeing kids reaction to their room - if they can get me out of it. Also looking forward to bug free camping as this is our first sig tent - however, the tent was pretty hard to fold

Down and roll small enough to get back in the bag. Have never had a problem here before so guessing this is due to the sig. Overall, tent was sturdy and have every confidence it will deliver when we camp at Easter! Will update review when the tent has been fully put to the test!
