As with the previous reviewers, we purchased an Outwell Glendale 4 as a package deal (Tent, Footprint and Carpet) from Taunton Leisure towards the end of 2011. Once more, we received great service and received another quality product made by Outwell (we purchased an Outwell Montana 6, back in 2009, but have decided to downsize). Well almost a great product, hence a final score of 9 out of 10, rather than 10.

The tent itself is as described in the manufactures description and it stood up to 30+ mph winds with no problem whatsoever, thanks to the wind-stabiliser system. Other than this we can only reiterate most of what has already been said about the Glendale 4 (Most being that we did not experience any difficulties with the poles or problems with condensation, etc.).

Again, pitching this tent is straight forward (we also watched the Outwell video of how to pitch on YouTube) and with colour-coded poles (Red and Blue) which matched the sleeves, we couldn’t go wrong and we didn’t, thankfully! There are also 4 metal pegs to secure the tent at each corner, which were very secure and well made. However, if only the same could be said for the other “coloured” pegs (Yellow and Black) for the other tent loops and the guy ropes. These pegs were of a poor quality and despite the ground not being hard or rocky, the pegs, when pulled out of the ground when packing up were bent and twisted, unlike the pegs that we are used to with the Montana 6. We appreciate that this is perhaps a minor complaint, but with the quality you expect from Outwell, surly it’s not too much to ask for decent tent pegs and it is this point alone that our overall review score is 9 out of 10, rather than 10, because, this really is a good quality “practical” tent.

So, would we recommend that others buy an Outwell Glendale 4? Well yes. Definitely. That is if you can still find one. We have recently discovered that Outwell have discontinued the Glendale 4, after only one year in production, in favour of its BIG BROTHER the Glendale 5. We do not know the reason for this – perhaps it’s about demand of the market or the Outwell range having too many 4-person tents – you decide. Nevertheless, one thing is clear this is a very good tent and if you are lucky enough to get the opportunity to purchase a Glendale 4, then we would certainly recommend it. If the Glendale 5 is of the same quality and layout, but only larger, then we also believe that this would be a good investment – but buy new pegs, unless Outwell decide to up-grade them. We purchased our tent online from Taunton Leisure in September last year and we received very good service. It came as a special price package which included the tent, carpet and footprint.We purchased the side extension as well and all for around Ł465.

We had looked at all different tents but when we saw the Glendale 4 it seemed to suit our requirements at the best price.

Pitching the tent is fairly straight forward (we had watched video of how to pitch) with colour coded poles which matched the sleeves. There's also different colour pegs for the different loops.

We were disapointed with the main tent poles. We expected them to fit together a lot better as they came apart a few times while we were trying to pitch the tent.

Once the tent is pitched it's a very 'practical' tent.

There's only the two of us and it gives us a lot of room and are able to stand up inside with no problems and my husband is 6ft 1'. There are two sleeping pods which have storage pockets between them from top to bottom, a living area and a porch, which can be separated by a zipped door. The porch has a 'bath tub' type groundsheet which is easily connected by colour coded loops.We use this area for sometimes cooking if the weather's bad and as we don't keep the gas bottle inside the sealed tent it's ideal. It's a good entrance area if the weather's bad as well as you don't have to walk in your living area in wet footwear.

We did have some condensation but we just opened all the window covers up. A dehumidifier has been recommended to ease condensation, not sure if it will work but will give it a try.

The extension is a bit tricky to put up in windy weather. The sheet that goes over the tent to peg down the other side is quite large and you have to ensure the front part is positioned correctly otherwise when it rains it runs straight onto the side door on the tent, which is no good if you are using that door. Once it's up though we find the extension very useful for either the cooking area or just as a shelter as it is quite big.

Be aware when taking it down in windy weather as it blows a lot and ours had a slight tear this weekend when trying to unpeg and the wind caught it.

The tent and poles are in separate bags and are quite heavy.

Overall, the tent seems very good, only used three times so far with no leaks yet and it has been used in heavy rain. It is practical and is suitable for the two of us and will be big enough for us to take our grandson with us on future camping trips.

Our Glendale 4 came from Allweathers of Billericay for Ł379. We also ordered the footprint groundsheet for Ł39.00 We opted to use our existing carpet even though it is slightly smaller all round. It arrived next day. Thank you Mr Allweather. Two items - poles in one pack and the tent & groundsheet in the other.

This is a very large tent for four people and quite heavy. 30 kgs. There are two of us so it's massive, which is what we wanted. Our first weekend away was to Hooks Farm Uplyme a very nice and well organised site. 13/14/15 May 2011. We had watched the Outwell sponsored pitching video on YouTube so were prepared. We had some difficulty with the poles coming apart as we moved and hoisted the flysheet. We got it up without too much incident. However, I think it would be a handful for two people in a high wind. (Time will tell)

Outwell provide 3 types of pegs - steel for the corners. Yellow plastic for the guys and black plastic for the tent base. (less corners) Interestingly, there were 24 black pegs but I could only find 12 black loops so they provide spare pegs. Yes, the pegs are colour coded to the loops, nice little detail. The poles are also colour coded with their sleeves. I'm not a fan of plastic pegs and I always take a bag of assorted metal pegs anyway. Needed at Uplyme as it's quite stony under the grass.

Seriously impressed with the space and height. On that note I should add that anyone under 5 ft 3 ins would have difficulty pitching this tent and certainly couldn't touch the roof. For us though, it's perfect, could find no fault. We now have a tent that has a kitchen, a lounge/diner, a dressing room and a bedroom. What more could we want? OK! en-suite loo would be nice but I suspect that's pushing it a trifle. The porch has a removable groundsheet. You will see in the photo above that we chose not to fit it but it is very simple to insert.

The one downer and why it drops a point is condensation. We had the ventilation slots open but it was soaked inside when we clambered out of the bedroom on Saturday morning. Bedroom was dry though. To be fair Outwell say that in certain weather conditions the tent may experience condensation. Our previous tent was, in fact still is, a Coleman Weathermaster XL which we've had for about 6 years and we've never experienced condensation in it - so it was a shock. We've had it in previous tents but had forgotten it happened because the Coleman dealt with it so well. Saturday night was fine. De-camping and packing up was fun. The flattened tent has to be rolled on to squeeze the air out. (Pity the kids have grown up and gone) Leave the doors unzipped to help let the air out. It rolls up and easily fits into the bag.

If you want a roomy, well made and spec'd tent then this is for you. We're sure that 'Glenda' will give us as much enjoyment but with more space than any of our previous tents.
