3 Reviews of the Glenwood 600

By: Edwarsp120  Reason: I've used one  Made in: 2016   Rating:

WE bought this tent to replace a Gelert 800 which leaked like a sieve for some reason and had a 4000HH rating. We have used the Glenwood 600 twice now, the second time in heavy rain and it has not leaked at all (once you have had a tent which leaks this is a huge relief). I think a 3000 rating is more than sufficient for most weather you would want to be camping in. The room is satisfactory although you would struggle to sleep 6 in the bedroom. The build factor is excellent. We haven't found it any more tricky to put up than other tents in fact some of the smaller dome tents can take longer to put up. My tip would be to use a separate bag for the poles and pegs which makes if a lot easier to get the tent back in its bag. I would recommend this tent, very good value. We bought it from Go Outdoors with the carpet.

This is the first tent we've had for about 40 yrs.Our first trip out we had very hot weather and being the first time we put it up we had help from other campers it should have taken 25 mins but it took about 2 hrs.We found it got very hot inside with the light colour fabric We we thought it could have been a bit darker especially in the sleeping area. There were plenty of vents that needed to be opened at night in fact for 2 nights we slept with the side door open and just the fly net zipped closed which is a good option. The sleeping compartment was well contained and kept the creepy crawlies out. Plenty of room for the two of us not sure if 6 would be comfortable.

The second time we went camping it only took us 45 mins to put up with the 2 of us. No problems with packing it up. The weather turned chilly in the evenings so we had to close all the vents as it was very cold inside. But when the sun came up in the morning it was very hot in the sleeping compartment. We also had rain for 2 days but we were nice and dry inside. We enjoyed ourselves both times and look forward to going again.

The only thing we didn't buy with the tent was the carpet which I think would be a good idea for the next trip.

Anyway not bad for a couple of pensioners.

This is so nearly a great tent. Let's look at this logically. Only Go Outdoors sell this tent. As such, one can assume that Outwell had some overstocks on this for the european market and Go Outdoors snapped their hand off when offered. It's not really designed for the UK market and our inclement weather (3000 HH and no support for bedroom pole kind of proves this).

Good points:

It's a bargain at £450 for the job lot (tent, footprint, carpet and awning).

It's very roomy and has a lot of good features.

It's easy to put up (once you get passed the badly labelled poles).

It's easy to put away (fold in half back to front, then fold in thirds. Roll your body down it to expel any trapped air, lay poles across and then roll up and pop back in the bag).

The fibreglass poles are pretty strong and thicker than say the Aldi tent they had on offer

Fully sewn in groundsheet in living area and bedrooms. Perfect for keeping creepy crawlies out and kids/pets in!

Cable entry point (although only on one side) for those of us that like our electrical home comforts.

Decent zips.

Good guy lines and velcro wind stabilizer system.

Excellent head height inside main living area. I'm 6 foot and there was loads of room above me.

Front canopy fits three folding chairs and a kitchen unit across it.

Bad points

3,000 HH. 4 or 5,000 would be much better for UK weather (and your peace of mind in heavy rain)

Bedroom divider not the best.

Rear pole for bedroom area sags in strong (ish) wind. It really should have had a flap attached with a couple of guy ropes for extra stability.

Curtain on front door ends up at a weird angle when half open.

Curtains are on toggles not zips.

Bedroom rear ventilation panel is huge and goes all the way across. Not great on cold nights and another way to tell this was designed for a warmer climate than the UK especially as the bedroom doors have a big panel as well.

Pegs are just cheap thin steel so best to invest in some heavy duty ones. 25 to 35 mph winds pulled all one side out. Didn't budge an inch after replacing them with heavy duty ones.

We've used it twice now and had strong winds and some fairly heavy rain both times and it has kept us dry with no leaks.

A good Outwell tent for the money but with a couple of improvements it would have been an excellent tent. We are happy with it though :)
