7 Reviews of the Hartford Front Extension
By: Rotters Reason: I own(ed) one Made in: 2009 Rating:
We have had to repair ours as windy conditions caused the pole which has a rounded point to it rubbed through. My wife would like to make a door for it so this doesn't happen again.Shame there isn't one you can buy and clip on.
Apart from the repairs, its been excellent, watching others from the extra wide opening, sitting out of the weather but feeling outside.

Wow just returned from first trip with the extension, brilliant, wont be without it again. Read reviews about lack of door / wind tunnel so before we went we added a zip on zip off door and it works brilliantly. The front of a Rage Alta 6 DX has almost the same dimensions of our older style extension, so quick shop on ebay in the cold of winter and hey presto a quick fix (less than £20). Will upload photos. Loved having so many windows.

An excellent addition to the hartford. Perfect place for storage (we usually leave the rotary washing line under it at night time) or eating under if the weather has taken a turn for the worse.
Very easy to pitch and usually I peg the front end out using delta pegs and it has stood up well in some pretty strong winds.

We have the XXL tent and this is a godsend. The Extension covers the sloping door stopping rain coming in on those good old uk summer days and gives a lot of extra space. We have the 2008 model and have found it easy to pitch on the worst of days and has stood up to the shell island gales no problem. As to cooking you are not supposed to but we have always used this as a cookspace and are still here. In short an excellent piece of kit we would not be without.

Can be tricky to pitch with just two of you and you need to make sure it's fully stretched out (lengthways from the tent and widthways), but not to taught, to avoid the wind issues mentioned above. Ignore the suggestion of an extra bedroom - you can't cook in there and it's definitely not worth the risk. Would not be without mine, somewhere to cook, extra storage space, and, somewhere to play games with the kids as the sun goes down. If you have an EHU unit worth running a light into it. Highly recommended.

This is good for extra room and keeping bits sheltered out of main tent area and preventing mud everywhere, but it is tricky to pitch and has to be well anchored by many a tent peg, and looked a bit dodgy on one windy occasion but didn't collapse! thankfully
If you need room get a tent with an extra pod, to save hassle, I picked my porch up cheap so not too miffed
Perfect if weather is fine, - note the IF haha - it always rains when I camp

A must have for the Outwell hartford tent. We have 2 children and this canopy adds that bit extra room. The only downfall is that on a windy days, make sure it is tied down well because as it has no doors the wind does blow right in.
