5 Reviews of the Illinois 6
By: Bahadost Reason: I own(ed) one Made in: 2012 Rating:
We saw the Illinois 6 at a camping show and liked the different layout compared to all other tents. We could not believe how easy it was to put up as we were complete novices. We love the air going through the tent if you undo the doors and leave the flysheets closed. The panoramic view from inside is lovely but does get a bit restricted when the awning is up. Could not imagine 6 people sleeping in it but 4 comfortably. We are only 2 and use the other room as a dressing room. We also purchased the awning and watched the video on how to pitch it. Still not sure we have got it right. But it is a great space to have the kitchen area. Not quite sure how the groundsheet is supposed to go in and no instructions. So we clip it wherever. We have spent nights in torrential rain in the tent and no leaks. We would find it very hard to replace this tent as we love it so much. And we love the colour of the Mocca compared to the new green. Very relaxing light airy colour.

We are using the Illinois 6 for 3 weeks per year and we must say it is the best tent so far! Pitching time is okay as is the space. The separate bedrooms are spacious and a great idea. The only thing on the down side is, condensation. The up side; space, rooms, doors and windows! We say it's a great tent and it will be hard to find a replacement when we need another tent.

This tent is fantastic. We had a tunnel tent that when raining meant we felt like we were in a prison, even in the rain sitting in a warm tent looking out the window is relaxing.
This has as many windows as a conservatory and a huge living area suitable for my family of 5 without a problem.
We also bought the awning, brilliant!

We saw the Illinois online on the Outwell website and were intrigued by the different layout. We were looking for something that could house two adults and two dogs (who both need a decent amount of space) and having viewed it in reality at the Caravan and Cmaping show in London we immediately bought one (we also got the carpet and awning in a great deal).
We used the Illinois 6 for the first time in May and it took us no time at all to put up, really easy (despite its size). There is lots of usable space inside and full headroom (even for those over six foot) all over. The bedrooms are a great size but it really would be best as a four berth not six. The awning itself was more difficult to erect and I am not sure we got it completely right in the end as it didn't seem as big as it should have been. The sides slope quite a bit so you lose room there and also when the awning door is closed it cuts out a lot of space - bit disappointing given how great the tent is. I would recommend the Illinois 6 but suggest thinking harder about the awning.

We purchased the Illinois 6 after seeing it put up at our local showroom. We were looking to downsize from our Hartford XL, and wanted all the living space that it gave us, without the huge pitch size.
The Illinois has two large and two smaller poles and that is it, careful pegging before the poles go in is key. It takes about twenty minutes start to finish, and most of that is the guy ropes.
A very frosty, and rainy Easter weekend has put the tent to the test. And it was fabulous, no leaking at all. We had four adults and one child sleeping in the tent for most of the weekend, and experienced no issues with condensation. There is full standing room throughout the tent, including in the sleeping pods, which also means that air circulates round with ease.
I would recommend that the back door, with the small porch, is used during torrential rain, as the door at the front is positioned at an angle and the water has a tendency to pour in.
Was a bit of a bugger to fold up, with lots of issues with trapped air, but careful rolling eliminates this.
We are looking at purchasing the awning before the summer, as smelly teenage shoes in a warm tent will not be pleasant!

Manufacturer's Description
The Illinois 6 uses our own Outtex® 4000 fabric with the Outwell Extended Frame System of steel and Duratec poles. New looks created by the fresh colours highlight the large windows. The tent sleeps six in two bedrooms that sit opposite each other vis-à-vis style across a wide corridor that leads to a rear door. The spacious living area runs across the front of the tent and lends itself to creating zones that might incorporate dining, relaxation and play – enhanced by the ability to open the inner tents along two sides. All benefit from the light, views and space provided by the surrounding array of massive windows. Easily and quickly pitched all in one, the addition of the Outwell Easy Pegging System further simplifies things further and aids the tent’s gale-beating Outwell Wind Stabilizer System.
Recommendation: Vis-à-vis inners are the key factor here, ideal for those who like a bit of extra privacy at night from putting the two bedrooms either side of the main living area.
