3 Reviews of the Indiana 4
By: Paul Batson Reason: I own(ed) one Made in: 2005 Rating:
We've had loads of tents over the last 50+ years of camping but this is by far the best value for money. It is sensibly designed and maximises the space, leaving room to move around (in a standing position!)It's quite spacious for just the two of us but copes well with the grandkids/nieces etc. We've used it in quite a severe storm and can report that the poles are strong and we were the only one completely intact the following morning.
We won't be changing this until it dies of old age!

We have been camping around Europe for the past 6 years (even as far as Morocco and Hungary from UK) but we had always used a Large Dome tent for speed of erection (Whoops, Maybe I could have worded that better) and we really wanted a large tent for those comfortable long stays on sites.
We bought the Indiana 4 as a cheap 'ex-display' tent (£125). We have had it for a number of years and I can say that we would highly recommend this tent. It takes a little longer to put up than a dome tent but for long stays it is excellent. Its strong due to the steel poles. No leaks in rain and we were happily surprised how effective the 'bath-tub' ground sheet worked (having been used to 'sewn in' ground sheets we had our reservations about this).
Its size is great for 2 people with plenty of room for comfort camping, loads of headroom an both bedroom and main. The canopy is a bit of a token canopy and doesn't realy demand the steel pole that supports it but this is a very minor gripe.
In rainy weather the size is a welcome design as you can sit with 4 - 5 folks drinking and enjoying the chat easily (I know.We have done it)
My other small gripe is that inserting the little metal loop pegs that go in the end of the poles is tricky and demands a bit of patience. Even with the ties slacked off its hard. Again only a small gripe.
We had a look at the newer version of this tent that Outwell make and found the 'Colorado 5' to be the closest match. Unfortunately Outwell have made a backward step with this one as it doesn't have the 'bath-tub' ground sheet (it simply has a flat sheet)and it doesn't have the canopy. So get the 'Indiana 4' if you can find one now.

This is our perfect tent, we bought in spring 08, the year after it went out of commision, so we got it for a cracking price, you still can if you look around. Our kids are growing up fast so its perfect for the two of us but we can still fit the odd kid in. Its fantasticaly sturdy in high winds, easy to put up and made of quality materials. The bath tub ground sheet is the best of both worlds when it comes to comparing a SIG with the conventional ground sheet, its an all round excellent tent that you can still pick up at a good price.

Manufacturer's Description
The manufacturer has advised that this model has been discontinued.
The Outwell Indiana is the natural successor to the fantastically successful Colorado range. This new tunnel tent is designed for spacious but practical family camping and with each tent having the new universal inners, gives a variety of sleeping options. This new range features the Outwell Power Stability steel pole structure (kicks sand in the face of bullies) and the Outtex 5000 polyester flysheet. Unlike the Montana's, the Indiana range feature fully detachable bathtub groundsheets that act as a barrier to most of what the British weather can throw at them. All tents in the range feature a front and side door, large View-Vent window panels and a zip-off front canopy. On the Indiana 4, the 2+2 universal bedroom inner can be used in a variety of ways - for 4 people, 2+2 people or just 2 people. The tent can be pitched flysheet first or as one and comes complete with wheeled carry bag; Outwell doormat; internal hanging organizer; reinforced, adjustable guy points; internal pockets for storage; lamp holder; pre-attached luminous guys; full length mesh pockets; heavy duty Outwell zips.
Weight: 16.0kg (for canvas) and 18.2kg (for poles) Pack Size: 78x35x37 (canvas); 22x75 (poles) Dimensions: (Inner) 150+265+215 x 300cm Height: 210cm; Inner Height: 200cm
