8 Reviews of the Iowa 6

Cracking tent. Love the orange colour. Illuminous guide ropes. This tent has been used 6 times over the 10 years of owning and it doesn't disappoint. Easy to put up. Big enough for me to stand up in it, I'm 6' 2'. Two bedrooms either end which can be taken out if needed.

My only criticism would be that it would be extremely 'cosy' for 6 people. This is a decent size for 4.

We manage to put this up in 30-40 mins between two of us (me and my 10 year old lad)

Brilliant tent! As others have said, the sloping door let the rain in when opened, but the addition of the awning (sadly green, not blue to match the tent) solved the problem and also provided a large covered space outside. I have used it 3 years running in sun, torrential rain & high winds and it's coped with them all with no problems. Very easy to pitch, single handed in about 20 minutes (and I'm a 50 something female!) Very spacious & bright inside, can stand upright in living areas & bedrooms. Designed for 6, but as most tents, better suited for 4. I'd thoroughly recommend this tent to anyone.

We already had an Outwell tent which we loved, but which was really too big if I wanted to take the kids away on my own. We went to Go Outdoors last year and had a look around the shop. I'd more or less decided on the tent I wanted when we realised that there were more tents pitched outside, one of which was the 2008 blue Iowa. I was smitten almost immediately and we haven't been disappointed.

The tent had its first run in our back garden and our children and various of their friends spent several sleepovers in there over the summer holiday. This was a Scottish summer holiday so it had plenty of opportunity to prove itself!

I have since taken the Iowa on several short trips with my three children and it has been brilliant. Easy to pitch (approx 20 mins), loads and loads of room, great head height in the central area, light and airy. It's only getting a 9/10 from me because of the slanty door which did let the rain in as you went in and out during wet weather - however I am trusting that the (sadly green) tent extension that I ordered will sort that issue out. All in all, an excellent tent!

Having just bought our first Outwell tent I am over the moon. They seem to have thought of everything, even velcro tape to keep the guy wires safely stowed on the tent, we also found a door mat & thermometer inside the tent.

My fiance & I erected the Iowa in 15 minutes from start to fully finished (carpet as well), total ease & super fast compared to our old 6 man tent. Plenty & I do mean plenty of space between the bedrooms making for a great play area if you have kids or if you want to put up table & chairs, kitchen units or anything else. All will fit in nicely.

I cant wait for summer to really hit, fingers crossed its a sunny one like 2006, this tent is screaming at me to take her out again, love it.

We bought this tent as the wind killed our other tent last year. The Iowa held up well to the same wind no problem. Although the Iowa is a 6 birth it is more comfortable for 4 people. There is plenty of room inside and seems well made and fully SIG. The tent goes up all as one easily in 20 mins. The rain can run inside when you get in and out as the doors slope. My only gripe is that last year the Iowa was brought out as a sample tent in blue, and this year Outwell have Brought out the tent in green, with an extension also available which we have bought but haven't tested yet. Overall a good solid tent and more suitable for 4 people.

This is a great family tent for short trips (we are two adults and two children). We had it up in no time and although we haven't used it in very windy weather, it put up with quite a bit of rain and kept us nice and dry. A pity there is no canopy to purchase, as it suffers from the usual water ingress whilst getting in and out of the tent due to the slanted door. Great value tent.

We brought an Outwell Iowa 6 from Go Outdoor's in Loughborough, it was perfectly suited for us, lots of space, airy and well designed. It was incredibly easy to put up, we practically had it up in 1/2 hour, unfortunately on the first night it rained and we woke to find quite a few leakss and the odd puddle of water in the bathtub groundsheet, bummer. Fortunately it didn't ruin the holiday, and to be honest we still loved the tent, obviously, we took it back to the shop where they sent it back to Outwell to check it out, after about 3 week's they got back to us and offered a full refund, we would've loved a replacement but they didn't have any in stock until possibly next year, bummer#2! If anybody out there is thinking of buying an Outwell Iowa 6, do so, they are a great tent, we were just unfortunate, these thing's happen eh?! I'm off back to Loughborough today to get me another Outwell, possibly a Montana 6 !

We love our tent! It wasn't the one we went to buy( Vango Orchy 600) but saw it and thought, this maybe a better option. It had great head height (6 foot plus) in the main living area and very decent in the bedroom. We chose it as we saw it being a bit more future proof for us and more roomy. I mean that we'd be sharing a room (albeit separated by a curtain - what I originally wanted) with our children. This way we have our own room and they theirs (ages 4 and 18 months). Since the kids couldn't sleep in one bedroom(high jinx) we had to separate them into their own rooms and we slept in the main 'living room'. There was still LOADS of room. It has two inner tents pre-attached and a fully sewn-in ground sheet. Take it out of the bag, lay it out, put the five poles through the top loops (colour coded poles - but fairly obvious due to length) and up you go. Tap in the pre-attached (luminous) guy ropes and you're set. Pitched for the first time with two of us in 20-30 mins (not sure. Didn't seem long) on the site (I know - foolish) but it WAS straight forward. We only give it 9/10 because of the silly 'keys' at the end that you have to slide into the poles to stabilise (I guess.) OK, we had good weather but it was breezy overnight, however, we did feel it would cope very well with bad weather. It has a 3000 hydrostatic head, should it rain! Easy to take down and as long as you note how it unfolded, fitted back in the carry bag (more than our sleeping bags and bed did). It is fairly weighty at 20Kg but I can lug it (girly 5'4') from the car to the pitch. Although rrp £250, we paid £159 at Go Outdoors which has all their tents pitched (in Oxford) for you wander in and out of. Very happy and looking forward to our next trip.
