5 Reviews of the Michigan 8
By: Kingkongkev Reason: I own(ed) one Made in: 2011 Rating:
This was our first family tent after borrowing one for a number of years. We have our first trip away during October half term in Wells next the sea, the only tent on the site!
We had 5 adults and 3 children and it was wonderful. Enough sleeping space, and during the day piled the clothes into the bedroom. The sitting area was big enough for us all to sit in. For a family of 4 or 6 it would be perfect.
Putting it up was a dream, I got some ideas from youtube with the xl model, pegging out the 4 corners loosely then working across. The instructions say to put all poles in first, but we found it best to add the front porch poles after the main section is up as it is to heavy to lift.
The first night we had strong gusty winds and the tent was brill, just rocked and swayed.
There was enough room in the porch for all our shoes and junk and to cook in.
The only negative if it is one is that it could do with a mid fixing point in the porch, with the wind blowing it had big gaps around the flooring.
Thank you Outwell for your camping genius.

This is our second tent - previously had a Wild Country Homestead 5 which was excellent. As our family has grown we decided to invest in a bigger tent. Outwell seem to have the tent market sewn up. After much research we opted for the Michigan 8 with the extension. With four rooms and a large living space it was ideal. The ability to convert two rooms to one was a bonus as our daughter is in a travel cot so it was easy to get to her in the night if necessary.
The tent was easy to pitch as was the extension which fitted over the front easily. It was warm and waterproof - survived heavy rain and winds ! and its so nice having a stitched in ground sheet - almost luxury. Also - it was easy to take down and get back in the bag.
Can't fault it really - it has been excellent for us and we are looking forward to using it again - before the end of the summer.

This tent is fantastic for comfortable and relaxing, family camping. For 2 adults and 4 children we use one of the bedrooms as a storage area and this allows us to enjoy the living area. We found pitching quite straightforward as the colour coded poles keep you right.
This tent is full of helpful features such as the hook for a lantern and storage pockets and it is these touches that show how well designed it is. The curtains allow for light or privacy. We opted for the footprint and carpet and these extra layers of insulation meant that an evening in the tent in a Scottish downpour was cosy as well as comfy. The bathtub groundsheet proved its worth in these conditions too as the living area floor was well protected.
We are truly hooked now and are looking forward to enjoying longer camping trips.

This tent is just brilliant we love it! It's a lovely light and very spacious tent, especially the living area with lots of window's all with curtains and a sky window the light just floods in even on dull days.
We are a family of two adults three children and a dog, we chose the Outwell Michigan 8 because we wanted a built in porch and extra space in the sleeping compartments for our luggage as not to clutter up the living space.
After just coming back from our 3rd visit to Cofton Country Holidays in south Devon, I must say it was the most pleasurable tent out of our two previous tents we have had.
We brought our tent from the Sanders Taunton Leisure show.We asked what was the best way to erect this tent and were advised to loosely pin all four corners put the two middle poles either side of the living area up first, next the two outer poles followed by the porch pole and the fibre porch pole all that's left are the two inside living area poles and hey pesto tent erected.
I do agree with the comment made about the draft from the mesh panel in the door separating the living area and porch. However this can be over come by having a heater, but without the mesh panel the tent would become to hot and cause a lot of condensation at night.

Love this tent, there is loads of room, we went with our 5 children, ages 12 to 1 year old twins and we had more then enough room. The only thing I did not like is the door going from the living room to the porch area, as it has a mesh panel going along the top of the door so at night it was a bit drafty in the living area.
As for putting up the tent I thought it was going to be really hard but it was fine, a bit on the heavy side to get it lifted and you need someone tall to put up the 2 poles in the living area. Taking the tent down was easy, we thought we would never be able to fit it back in its bag but the bag is extra big to fit it back in. The poles come in a different bag from the tent
The Outwell Michigan 8 is well worth every penny cant wait to go away in it again.
