3 Reviews of the Oakland XL Front Extension
By: Sam+Jimmy Reason: I own(ed) one Made in: 2012 Rating:
I have just returned the Oakland XL Front Extension to Amazon as I am very disappointed with the quality and design of the item. The front peg loop came away from the tent when pitching - looking like a stitching fault. We pitched on a very windy night and the wind just kept creeping under the gap between the awning and the tent and in the morning the tension straps were flapping all over the place and the tension strap on the ground had sheared off! Not a great design for windy conditions. Have now purchased the awning!

I purchased the Outwell Oakland xl last year. I first bought the side extension but sold it as it was fibreglass poles and I wanted something steel framed. So I went for this. Looks great, is great but unfortunately I have had to send it back to be fixed. The strap at the back where it goes to the tent isn't robust enough and snapped off. I think this is because the wind gets between he crack. Once I get it back and use it again I think I will make sure that I put the extension as far back to the tent as possible!

Bought the 2011 front extension for our 2010 Oakland xl, the colour scheme is slightly different on the tents but I think it matches pretty well. Easy to put up, once its unfolded, two clips attach to the tent then peg it in place. Only used it once in fantastic weather so don't know how the wind will affect it. Friends have one for their Nevada M which seems slightly larger but this still gave us a useful space. Overall a very useful addition to a great tent.
The reason I gave the extension 8 stars was because of the new peg design, the pegs now bend at the head which renders them useless if they hit something hard, bent five of the new ones putting up the extension but none of the older blue type doing the tent, never bent a blue one at the head yet and the tips can straightened if you leave them in boiling water for a while,
Also paid £143 for it from Go outdoors who did a price match for us.
