2 Reviews of the Oakville 500
By: Zoeoli Reason: I own(ed) one Made in: 2014 Rating:
I bought this tent August 2014 after owning a series of much lesser quality tents, all of which were OK to a point. I now have a son of 11 years old who loves to camp and I decided we should have something which would be better for cooler weather and would last until he is grown. I managed to pick this one up at only £220.00 and am absolutely delighted with my purchase.
This is a really generous size - 480cm x 350cm overall, approx half bedrooms and half living, and 200cm high. The design of the poles gives you full height across most of the width. It has steel poles and the quality of the manufacture and materials is excellent. It really feels like a small house. The bedroom area can be divided in two or kept as one huge space. We do the latter and with a double plus single airbed there is still room to walk around.
Loads of vents almost eradicate condensation, and it has all the usual Outwell nice touches. Three doors, one with a rain porch, give you lots of options to suit the weather. We haven't yet had it out in really stormy weather, but it feels solid as a rock and has shrugged off heavy rain.
The trade-off for the quality is weight: I can barely lift the whole thing, but the poles come in their own bag, so by keeping them separately it is manageable for me (50 year old female). Pitching is all-in-one and takes me about 30 minutes including all the guy lines. It could just about be done alone, but 2 makes it quite straightforward.
All in all, can't really fault it and at the price I paid, it was a snap.

Have owned many tents but this is absolutely the best. Really easy to erect and fantastic inside. Bought the package where you got the footprint and the carpet which was a really good deal. Cannot rave about this tent enough! There is enough room to sit inside at a table and eat comfortably. Also, space for your kitchen and cooking area.
I particularly like the zipped in fly sheets which enabled us to have the outside doors rolled up all night but keep the fly sheets zipped to ensure no creepy crawlies in the night.

Manufacturer's Description
The latest Oakville is a five-person three room tunnel tent. Key is the superior interior light thanks to the large windows with toggle-up curtains to all three sides of the living area. The eye is instantly drawn to the smart new Tree Tops colour of the Outtex® 3000 outer tent. Pitching is particularly easy and the pre-attached luminous guylines add stability. A Duratec fibreglass pole is used to create extra headroom via the weight-reducing Outwell Extended Frame System. Other features include: organiser pockets, adjustable pegging points, reinforced stress points and heavy duty Outwell zips.
