1 Reviews of the Phoenix 4
By: Neilap Reason: I own(ed) one Made in: 2016 Rating:
It's such a shame, this is a really nice tent with the three room layout I like so much. When it's a bit chilly my wife can sit in the warmth of the middle room while I'm cooking with the door open. It's versatile, very roomy for 2 people and meets all our needs. It's also an Outwell and I've always wanted one of those.
I bought it between Christmas and new year 2016 at a good price for the 2016 model as the 2017 model was beginning to appear and there's hardly any difference.Cable entry slots into the bedrooms seems the main one so I took the plunge and got the tent, footprint and carpet. I also bought a canopy, the Sunncamp Boston one (see picture) as the size is a good fit and it adds extra covered space and the door can be fully open for cooking etc in the rain.
We test erected in the garden in April, on the first dry spell and all was good. Then when we camped at Watersmouth Cove in Devon end May/early June, three poles split during erection. We've put tents up a lot, and we've had a lot of fiberglass poles so we know how they go up but these seem so highly stressed, coupled with the weight of the bedroom that they seem to be not up to the job.
I'm in touch with the supplier and so far they're very interested and helpful, we'll see what happens but I'm always going to be nervous putting this tent up even if I get a new set of poles sent.
Like I said, it's a shame and I'm gutted, without the pole problem I'd score a 10, it's great but the poles have let it down for me.
