5 Reviews of the Trout Lake 5
By: Codhead Reason: I own(ed) one Made in: 2010 Rating:
Had this tent a couple of years and used a few times so about time a review was in order.Decided to purchase a new tent after the kids had grown up and no longer needed an 8 birth and thought why not go for a cotton type tent.Hence the Trout Lake 5.With only the wife and I with the 2 little Yorkies we have found it to be spacious enough and with all the 'Gizmos' you could possibly want,I like the fact that it has Mozzie panels on each door / window.Sadly they no longer make the 5 birth which was a shock when wanting to purchase the extension last year ? But after a lot of phoning / surfing managed to get one direct form Outwell. We also use a footprint and cotton windbreak and when set up it will handle all that mother nature can throw at it.It can be erected in a short time with 2 persons and the bags are very generous when packing away. This really is a Rolls Royce amongst the tents and wherever we are people always stop and admire the look / rigidity of the tent.I have added better pegs(Screw Type) from local Angling shop and a carpet and this would be all I would ever change about the Trout Lake 5.The only small problem I have had is the elastic has gone in the extension and needs replacing. Our tent is pictured at the top of this review page.

We have already reviewed the tent but this year we have added the extension and it was a worthwhile purchase. Although it appears small when first putting it up it does add a lovely amount of extra space and a great entertaining area. We were away with friends and had many a happy evening sat in the extension with a glass of wine etc! It also makes a great area for wet boots, coats etc and enables you to enter the tent without dragging all your damp stuff in. Would recommend one (although they are not making them anymore!).

If you want a quick and easy way to convince a 'non' camping person that being in a tent can be fun, feel warm, spacious yet cosy and safe then this is the perfect tent. Having camped in Wales throughout heavy down pours this tent stood the test with ease. The polycotton ensures that the rain runs evenly off and does not leave any 'sagging' areas what so ever .With a little practice you can get the tent and extension up in less than an hour with just two. The fact that my partner can't wait to get camping again in this tent is a miracle in its self.

We've just spent 3 weeks living in this tent and highly recommend it. We are a family of 4, with two young children (4&2) and the 3 person bedroom just has that extra space to fit their blow up beds in, so worked really well. They loved it.
We had a Norfolk Lake previously, which was great, but just tooo big. This is perfect, enough space and easy and quick to put up and down. Also more room left in the car = more space for toys or wine.
We had some terrific thunder storms and no leaks and the sticky out bit over the side door helps keep the water out if it's raining when you open up.
We did not bother with the extension, did not appear to give that much extra room. Instead bought a Robens tarp for half the price and double the extra space. Also figured it would give the family a place to stay dry if we ever needed to take it down in the rain.
Possible for one person to put up and down, just need to work out where to peg to get the leverage, but much easier with two.
All round, have not got a bad word to say about it and can see us using it for years.

We got the Trout Lake 5 this year - it is fantastic. There are just two of us and one dog so it has bags of space - the living area is really spacious even for a family of 5 and being polycotton it has a great solid feel to it and is warm and cosy when its not so nice outside but stays nice and cool in the hot weather. Lovely and light inside with all the windows - great that every opening has a fly screen too.
Easy for two to erect and dismantle. Its up and down in 40 mins and my hubbie is extremely particular and it all has to be 'just so'. The zip in ground sheet is great - easy to use and plenty big enough even on uneven ground so there is no straining to try and get it zipped in.
There is absolutely nothing that I would change about the tent - it is perfect and will be part of our holidays for many years to come.
