1 Reviews of the Trout Lake 6
By: Jackuk Reason: I own(ed) one Made in: 2013 Rating:
I fell in love with this tent last season when going round the the tent shows, and have just had my first camping trip in the Trout Lake 6 this Easter.
In terms of pitching, it only has 3 poles (for the main tent) and a zipped-in very heavy duty ground sheet. It was quite quick to pitch by myself by pegging in the four corners and then erecting the middle pole first.
The bedrooms are a great set-up, with 3 separate pods, which can be opened up in any combination. I used it fully opened up with 2 double Outwell Posadas camping beds, which meant a useful space between the 2 beds.See photos I have uploaded.
The living area is quite large and is wider than long, due to the sloping front of the tent, some of the space is only usable for low storage, tables etc, however as its just the 2 of us camping (plus dogs) the amount of useful space was great.
This tent has lots of ventilation, which I find many of the newer tents seem to be lacking. Both the side doors and front have very large windows, act as doors and also have full zipped in mesh, great for getting air flowing through when the sun is shining. One side door has an extended roof, very useful if its raining and the other has door can be used as a canopy with the poles that are provided (these can also be used on the front opening, which I did not use as I also had the front extension/canopy).
All the windows had a nice cotton 'curtain' which could be rolled down and stored at the bottom of the window or closed with velcro. This tent has a lot of long narrow windows at the front and was a little bit if a chore in the morning rolling everyone up to let the light in! All the windows are tinted and provide a lot of privacy from outside views, although I found they reduced the light inside a little. However, this was very early in the season and it did rain almost all the time on one day, so was not a very bright day anyway.
Mentioning the rain, well its waterproof! We had at least 12 hours of very heavy rain and kept nice and dry. Being polycotton, will never have anything else now.
I purchased the tent with awning/carpet/footprint, with the intention of it being a great 'weekend' tent. I managed to pack the whole tent away with the Zipped in ground sheet and bedroom pods all still attached, which will make it much quicker to pitch next time. The resulting bag was quite heavy, but quite manageable. All in all, very happy with the Trout lake and very pleased with my purchase.
