5 Reviews of the Utah 4
By: Windywendy Reason: I own(ed) one Made in: 2008 Rating:
I love this tent! It is a home from home! I acquired mine this year, second hand from Ebay! After seeing my friend's Utah 4, I just had to have one!
It has the fitted carpet, the footprint and the kids room. The kids room is fabulous! It has 3 balls which all fit in the ceiling mesh of the bedroom pod! With brightly coloured sides and jungle design with a crawl through door for little ones, my son loves it! The Tent has all round panorama windows with curtains, which can be left up, half down, or all down! I have had many other tents before, with fibreglass poles but this is THE Best if you want rigidity! Even in the wind, you feel stable. The main reason for buying this tent was the space in the living area, it's huge! Enough for your table, chairs, camp cooker, and plenty of floor space! The added bonus is the 2 entrances. One opens up the whole side of the tent so you can easily walk in and out. The other is the normal full sized door, which has so many zips for 3 types of door zipped into it, the canvas flysheet, the mosquito mesh and the see through window door! Bit of a bind getting to the loo in the middle of the night!
Pitching is easy when you know how! The instructions are a little sketchy! You are better 'test pitching' it before you go on holiday! It is that big, that it does require 2 strong people to pitch it! Only because of the weight of the steel poles. Once it was up, you do have to fiddle around a bit to get it all straight, only because of it's shape. The bathtub groundsheet could be better. Once it's been flattened in the storage bag, it's difficult to get it on the toggles all the way round the tent evenly, so no draft gets in. I know newer models of Outwell tent's now have sewn in groundsheet's, which is a damn good idea!
I love my Outwell and am proud to be the owner of one! :o)

We bought our Outwell Utah 4 last year, after many years of holidaying abroad, and we were amazed at how far advanced modern tents have become!
What we wanted was a roomy tent with plenty of light and a cooking area outside the main tent, with room for our dog to sunbathe and watch the world go by. Our research eventually led us to the Utah 4 with the front extension.
The first time we put it up we had a nightmare, despite watching the video several times. But once we got the hang of it and sussed out the straps and pins, it all became very logical.
The second outing we were caught by the tail end of hurricane Billy in Northumberland. Amazingly the tent stood up to everything the elements had to throw at us including torrential rain and gale force winds. Many tents on the site were blown down, or blown away, during the first night. Although we got no sleep that night, the tent stood up extremely well!
The interior of the tent is very spacious with windows all round, letting in plenty of light, which can be adjusted depending on how much privacy you require.
The sleeping area can be opened up as one large bedroom, or two smaller doubles, depending on your requirements. We have it as one large room with the dog bed at the end and there is still loads of space around the edges for bags etc.
We bought the front extension at the same time as the tent and it increases the living space hugely. We set up our camp Kitchen within the extension and there is still room for chairs and a table, which is great for eating out on summer nights!
I have never experienced a bathtub groundsheet before, but I have to admit, it is a fantastic idea, especially during rainy weather, which we seem to experience quite frequently wherever we go!
Overall we are very happy with our choice of tent and are looking forward to many years of UK holidays in what is to us, an ideal tent.

We purchased this off a well known auction site to replace our Gelert Lokon Vario 4. We chose this tent due to the living area inside - perfect for those not so great British summers!
The tent is easy to erect - all together from arriving at our pitch to the tent and all accessories being inside ready took the 2 of us just over an hour on our first attempt so this should get quicker with time.
It is a very sturdy feeling tent with metal poles on the outside of the tent. Loads of living space and a huge bedroom (2 separate sleeping areas or you can remove the centre parting to form 1 room). We easily got our king size double layered bed in there with lots of room to spare.
At night we had 4 adults sat in the living area (and a dog) and the tent still felt roomy with lots of space to spare.
Having two entrances is great it means in hot weather you can open both doors to create a through flow of air giving a little relief. Each door also has a fly screen so you can open the doors without the onslaught of the midgies! the only downside is that this does mean 2 sets of doors to unzip on each entrance (the fly screen is totally separate to the door itself).
All in all a fantastic all round tent with bags of room for 2 people would easily accommodate the 4 people it is meant to (unlike some other 4 berth tents).

Beautiful, plenty of living space and bedrooms fine size. Have tried many cheaper options but having seen plenty of Outwells and checking out their specs it seemed like an obvious investment. Love the metal poles, as all the fibre glass ones I've seen/used have either bent or broken at some point(I'll camp whatever the weather).
The only reason it doesn't get the full 10 is it a bit of an animal to put up. Having studied the video about 10 times thought it would be easy enough, but I ended up with severely bruised arms! think I've sussed it now.
Lovely windows, curtain arrangements, extra features. Cant wait to take it out again.

We have just returned from a wet & windy Cannock Chase camping expedition.
The Utah 4 stood up to all the elements very well.
It has loads of room, it is really spacious and I am thinking of buying the extension for our longer camping trips. Also I love all the windows, it really makes it light and I like being able to still sit inside in the chillier weather and see whats going on around me! Also love the fact that you can have the curtains half up to give privacy but still have light.
It was relatively easy to put up with 2 people and this was our first trip with this tent and from past experience the more you use the tent the easier it becomes.
The bathtub ground sheet covers the whole of the tent (including under the sleeping area!) so you have to put the ground sheet down first then hang the sleeping area, which is no major problem.
The sleeping area is split in to 2 cabins by a zip so if there are just 2 people you can simply open it up in to 1 large sleeping area.
The organiser pockets on the bedroom are really useful but the temperature gauge is cheap and cheerful and did not change temperature throughout the whole of our trip (waste of time!) but I really like the Outwell doormat, very useful.
2 small problems - 1 toggle missing from one of the window curtains so I will try and rig something up myself for this.
- One of the long tensioning straps that run from one side of the tent to the other was wrongly attached and all twisted so OH spent ages trying to re attach it properly (shoddy finishing and checking!)
All in all very pleased with this tent.
(I originally bought the Sprayway Valley 4 but had problems with it and World of Tents exchanged it for us so we choose the Utah 4)
