5 Reviews of the Winnipeg 500

Bought the Outwell Vancanza Winnipeg 500 in may 2013 from eBay for £150 pounds new and for the price it's a great tent.

Went to Parkfoot near Pooly bridge on the may bank holiday weekend and tent stood up to the rain spot on.

They did not make an porch for this tent or carpet but I have used a Vango Icarus 500 footprint and its a perfect size, Gelert Ottawa carpet fits ok.

I have just bought a Vango Artemis 400 canopy in smoke blue / ocean blue for £34.99 on eBay and tried it out today, very close colour and fits pretty much perfect, very happy with all the gear. Have uploaded to photos on here for you all to see.

Looking forward to our next trip.

I recently had a bad experience with a Hi Gear Rock 5 and decided to treat myself to this very good looking Outwell. I chose Outwell because of it's good reputation and I have not been disappointed. The Winnipeg 500 is a mid size tunnel tent that sleeps 5 in a 2+3 bedroom configuration. The bedrooms are split by a zipped partition that can be unzipped to have one large bedroom. It also has a feature where one of the bedrooms can be unzipped altogether if not used to provide more living space. I was able to erect this tent alone in 20 minutes in winds of up to 25 miles an hour, (and I'm a girl!) so it really is easy to pitch. Most of the time is spent putting the pegs in. The living space is not massive but plenty large enough for me and my three children aged 10, 7 and 6 along with usual gear, cooker, table, chairs, wash basket etc. On the first night the heavens opened and the rain was torrential. So bad that everyone on the camp (we were the only ones in a tent, everyone else had touring caravans) was feeling sorry for us in our tent. Next morning we were bone dry, not a drip or drop of water anywhere. What more could you ask for. I noticed that around the pegging points on the driving rain side the groundsheet appeared a little damp, not wet, just damp, probably where the wind had driven the rain under the edge. I slackened off the tensions straps a little around the pegging points and didn't notice this with the next rain. Sloping door is a bit of a pain in the rain as the water runs in, side door with rain shelter is a bit better. The bedrooms fit 4 single airbeds and would only sleep 5 on mats or narrow camp beds. It has 7 large windows, including the two on the doors so when you are sat in the living area, it's almost like sitting in a conservatory. All windows have their own curtains for night time and privacy. Air vents are adequate and had a little condensation but nothing significant. This tent is discontinued now, (I got mine from Outwell as surplus stock) so mine was a real bargain at less than half the RRP. I would highly recommend this tent, Outwell now do the Virginia 5 which is almost identical. Brilliant tent.

This is a fantastic tent, made by Outwell, only cheaper. It still has all the qualities you would expect from such a well respected name but with a price tag everyone can afford. (always a plus)

We've had 3 camps in this tent and found it to be excellent (having previously owned Vango, gelert etc) All in one pitch which is achievable in only 12 mins (our personal best). And as is the British summer this year its had to put up with a helluva lot of rain,. However, it does not disappoint and is totally waterproof. Plenty of bedroom and living space for a growing family of 4. And after our recent jaunt (this week) to East Yorkshire it has been easily dried out once home and even the bedroom pods fit comfortably into the washing machine for a quick run through. All in all a fantastic tent for 1st timers and seasoned old campers (like us) alike.

10/10 Outwell, you have done yourselves proud.

We bought this from Argos and paid full price at £299 and a little upset when Argos put it on sale for £179.00! we didnt use the tent for a while but finally went away over Easter and May day bank holiday. We are a family of 5; 2 adults, and 3 children, 13, 10 and 5 and the tent was easily big enough for us and all of our gear. It was easy to erect; we had some good weather and some torrential weather with high winds. The tent was excellent, totally waterproof and stable in the wind ( with all the guy ropes it barely moved). It was fantastic and I am not so upset at having paid the full price now!

The tent is easy to pitch, totally waterproof and we have been in some storms in the tent. It is spacious and well layed out, when its cold tip up the door and it stays quite warm and with its windows its like your front room - really bright. Very impressed with the tent. Also has a great feature that you can removed the bedrooms to clean them.
