5 Reviews of the Peakland Denby 500

By: Trogs  Reason: I own(ed) one  Made in: 2009   Rating:

We needed a small tent for just me and wife now that the kids have flown. The Denby 500 met most of our criteria - able to stand up in it, large sleeping area, quick to erect, sitting/cooking area for bad weather days.

We've now used it for 10 sunny hot days in France - for which it was ideal. Very easy to put up and down so we could tour sites quickly.

It also survived 2 rainy windy nights in Devon. This tested the tent well. It was waterproof, but the tent did bend worringly in gusty winds. Also it was harder to erect in wind. The small Denby tent pegs were inadequate to hold the guy ropes, but I had some longer more robust ones that I used.

We did just manage to cook and eat in the small sitting area - provided it was pointing away from the wind.

Overall a reasonable tent for 2 people; ideal for long trips in good weather.

I was looking for a tent which was quick and easy to erect by one person and with standing room. The Peaklands Denby 500 fits the bill perfectly. The bedroom compartment is large but certainly won't accommodate 4 persons.3 at a push but two comfortably. The porch area is big enough to store a good few items of kit but if you like to keep the bedroom door closed and keep the gnats out as I do, the porch area is a little cramped for sitting in during wet weather. However, it does have windows for light and a view and if you're not too fussed about the flying insects then there is plenty of room with the bedroom door open.

I have used it in some pretty awful weather and it has stood up well with no leaks. The downside is that it is inner first which means a wet bedroom pod if you have to erect it in the rain.Something I have managed to avoid so far.

I think it is a very good general use tent. Very easy to erect, standing room of about 6' in the middle of the bedroom and with comfortable space for two adults and maybe a child.

This is our 'other tent' which we use for when we only want to camp for 1 or 2 nights. Our main tent is an Outwell Norfolk Lake.

The Peakland Denby 500 cost us 70 pounds.

We can stand up in it (just). It is very easy to put up and down. It does the job for a night or too. No frills but good enough for 2 adults plus a dog.

This tent is perfect as a cheap second tent for short / weekend breaks.

My 6 year old son and I can easily put it up together quickly and there is enough room for myself, husband and son and our airbeds.

It has good head-height and a small porch that is just big enough for the three of us to sit in with our camping chairs if the weather is bad.

A very basic tent which does the job, but doesn't shine 'quality'. We bought this for the simple reason that its footprint exactly matches the mother in law's lawn size, and she doesn't have a spare bedroom for when we visit - so an addition to our tent collection was called for! Reasonably priced at £59.99 it does what it says on the tin (or bag, to be more precise!). We pitched it once at home and the second time in the pitch black in pouring rain and it was relatively simple, though we regretted it not being flysheet first - not nice pulling flysheet over in thunderstorm at night!.

Once pegged out, a stable tent which stood up to terrible weather with no leaks. The groundsheet arrangement in the porch is not ideal, water gets in round the bottom, and the groundsheet-to-tent stitching is poor - stitches missing in places and has 'given way' in one place already.

Tents in this price bracket rarely have decent windows or standing room, so that was a bonus,(although 'sit up and beg' shape may reduce stability in v. High winds) and we were pleasantly surprised how much 'weather' it could withstand - but not really recommended for heavy use or if you want a tent that will last for many years. A good starter tent, esp if you want reasonable head height.

A good fit for us and 2 toddlers, but would be pretty cramped for 4 adults.
