I bought this to match with my other Quechua pop-up tents, to make a kind of family modular system. It works really well. We reserved this tent for the kitchen-y stuff, and used it as a porch between other tents. The large 4.1 hooked up under one of the high-level porches on the Base Full, and the smaller 2Seconds III-man tucked up adjacent to it, under one of the low-level flaps. The configuration worked well, and we had plenty of room for 6 people. The only thing I don't like is that the two high-level porches are next to each other rather than opposite, as are the low-level, so I don't think I can use the Base Full to fit between my two 4-man tents. Since our weather was perfect, I can't comment on the wind problems. I would hope that hooking tents together as I did would help stabilize the Base Full, but I'll have to make this observation at another point in time.

No fear of poles breaking with this fantastic pod.

I have owned the Base Seconds full for 5 years now and it its STILL going strong.

Have camped in some of the worst weather known to man, let alone the UK.From -10 to force 10 gales!.

( 4 times now). In the morning, you will guarantee that this tent will be the only one left standing on a campsite.Yes ok, you may have half the tent blowing in on you at 3am in gale force winds, but you won't EVER have the poles snap.And it will just spring back into place as if nothing was ever amiss, whilst you sit drinking and offering warm tea and commiserating with owners who are putting their expensive tents in the nearest bin.

With my ex, we had a total of 6 kids, ranging from 10 to 19. We added 2, Two Seconds III pop ups to the set up and used it for many years. I still own all of them 5+ years later and am currently contemplating the Quechua Base Seconds 4.2 now it is just my daughter and myself camping. I can still take the Base unit to connect to the main tent and use as a kitchen.

Can I fault this tent. Only on the lack of places to add extra guy ropes, we too( like another member mentioned above) added our own to the 4 top corners in very high winds. But apart from that no, nothing comes to mind. Have always been the centre of attention on camp sites and VW meets, as I seem to be the only person who can instinctively put them away without blowing a fuse.

I have over 40 yrs worth of camping experience in all kinds of tents and I have owned many different makes but I always, always, come back to these pop up tents. And that's saying something.

Buy one, add to it, keep them clean and occasionally re-water-proof them. You will have a tent for life.

BTW. Does anyone have a Base Seconds 4.2 for sale. ;)

This just works. I can put up on my own in all but the windiest conditions. You can pod smaller tents under two canopies or use this space for storage. We have another base which butts up to the the second door and is used as a bedroom. We can easily fit two adult chairs and table (and adults) with two small children on small chairs and a small canvas table for them. The ground sheet velcros into the corners and I like being able to lift it out and brush out the crumbs, grass and dishes of spilt porridge.

The corners can blow in when very windy and I can't understand why there aren't more guy points. We loosely add a guy to one of the tie points which does stop this but it isn't a reinforced point.

Bizarrely it is listed as a backpacking tent, it really isn't, you would be mad to try.

Think the retail price is Ł170 now

Owned this a few years and have always used it with the Queuchua xl 3 man and it worked well. Last year managed to buy a intex kingsize auto blow up bed, so started using this as the main tent, only problem was we didnt have a inner liner so was taping the ground sheet to the tent to keep out the creepy crawlies, Anyway just found out they have brought the inner base (flysheet and groundsheet) back into production so am well happy as I've tried to buy this at 3 different decathlons in France to know avail. Any how cracking tent cant fault any thing about it!

Owned since 2009. Excellent in thunderstorms, doors can be open. Stand up room and can also sleep on a full bed. Have got the inner but never use it. Will this weekend in Braemar. Great to dock tents on. Provides shade in hot weather with wind blowing through doors.

I use it in the Alps and Scotland. Also use as a changing room for kids, just pop it up

It's a full base.

The seconds base full has been brought back on the market. The Seconds Base Full is the best tent we own (my hubby loves the the Hartford XL, so we argue about which one to take). I bought the soon to be discontinued 4.1 in February, which is almost identical but with a bedroom. So fingers crossed I will get my way, and we'll be taking the Seconds Base Full and the 4.1 to France this year. The 4.1 is ideal for a one night stay, and the base full can be used to add living space.

The only DOWN side is that the 4.1 only has access from one side, so this limits the pitching meaning you have to access through the base seconds full. We NEVER see these pitched in the UK, so its a source of fascination when we do. In France we see at least one on each site we go to. Love this tent, shame that Decathlon don't put as much design effort into their camping furniture. The Base seconds full more than earned its worth last year: We slept in it (Annecy Municipal), I cooked under one of the canopies in the pouring rain (La Cluzas, Rhone Alps). If you open up the sides completely it makes a relatively safe place to cook and remain sheltered in poor weather. Very entertaining taking it down too.You can down load the instructions onto your phone, very useful.

It ticks all the boxes, and from a female perspective, its great to be able to stand up to get dressed, and you still get that small tent feel which you lose with the bigger family tents. Lets see if the combo suits the Aquitaine trip this year (18/08/11 @ 19:30 depart Hull and counting down)!

Bought 2 of these last year (along with a 2 Seconds IIII XXL) and used one in anger for the first time this weekend. We had it connected to the IIII XXL and another standard 2 man tent through some pretty atrocious wind and rain and it stood up to the task really well.

Really pleased with it, only downside would be it's size means that have to have the back seat of the car down to have it horizontal - but an impending purchase of a roof box will hopefully solve that.

I bought one of the last examples on sale at Ł65 in 2010. I believe Decathlon have now redesigned it and are selling it again but I'm not sure what changes have been made.

I bought it for weekend camping when fast pitching and striking of tents is required. The technique requires practice but it's not hard to get the hang of it. I use it as a living space with a small 2 man popup or as a stand alone single skin tent for 2 with no problems.

Only suitable for car camping and I would only use it for up to 1 adult and 2 kids. Overall an excellent design, waterproof, fast to put up and down and very flexible as a stand alone or matched with other popups of various sizes.

Please can anyone tell me why in the world Quechua have ceased production of this marvel?

This was the unit that first got me interested in the Quechua range with its adaptability and unique expandability for a growing family. I have had to buy the lesser base std but still wish for the full option.

We first saw a Seconds Base full in use on a campsite in France (Beaune), fantastic modular concept whereby you 'butt up' your smaller sleeping tents under a canopy to the central living area. Last year we saw one again (Bayeux), this time the couple decamped their sleeping 'pods' and stored all their gear in the 'base' while it poured with rain.Brilliant. After searching on the web I managed to track down last years model at Decathlon in Sheffield, reduced from Ł139 to Ł65, so it was a bargain. Last weekend we used it for the first time (Dalby MTB World Cup). Brilliant 10/10, great tent. We used a combination of the Quechua 2 seconds III (chuck up), and the Base Seconds Full, and a cheapo 2 man tent from ASDA. We slept in the chuck up, the table,chairs and cooking kit was in the 'Base' and the bikes were hidden from view in the cheapo 2 man tent.And all accessible from the 'Base'. We pitched in minutes and decamped in 1/2 hr. We have chosen this 'modular' combination for this years mountain biking trip to France. The weather in the Alps can change in minutes, so the idea of pitching our Outwell Hartford XL with its 3 bedrooms was a nightmare (for me). The Hartford is a great tent to use as a hub if you stay somewhere for longer than a week, but for touring the option we have chosen is perfect. We will more than likely do a one night stop somewhere and just pitch the chuck up.Pitching the rest of it when we reach our final destination Morzine.Can't wait. Quechua have some great ideas, much copied by several UK brands, but for some reason noone has copied the 'base'.

Manufacturer's Description

Pod design starting with a central living area pod. Then add on extra pods and attach sleeping inners. Possibility of 4 pods off central area.

Designed for 4 backpacking hikers who need a quick set-up living area offering shelter from the weather and enabling direct access to up to 4 '2 Seconds' tents.

2 of the 4 doors are for access, or for an "open" side, or for twinning with another Seconds Base. The other 2 are for access to a 2 Seconds tent. These access doors are protected from the rain by a hood that can cover the front of the 2 Seconds tent (whether it's an Air, XL or 1-, 2- or 3-man model).

Don't confuse with the standard Seconds Base, which is just a living area, and won't attach to your tents.
