After 7 years and over 200 days camping, our Aspen 500 DLX was showing it's age. Picked up a brand new one for less than £100. I looked at Air tents but they have tiny bedrooms and the slope at the back means you can't sleep head to the rear. The walls slope and make it hard to have furniture next to walls. I'll stay with my Aspen.

We love our 500DLX and use it for longer stays. As mentioned in previous reviews it's size and weight make it a little impractical for shorter stays so we bought the smaller Idaho for weekends/shorter stays.

We got the 500DLX as the large living space is ideal with children, particularly during wet weather when playing boardgames indoors, etc!

Our young son stays in the single zipped-up bedroom next to our bedroom & as there's a zipped door between the two he can get to us easily in the morning. The porch area is great for cooking and storing wet gear if needed.

All the little touches such as the sewn in pockets, hanging wardrobe pole and skylights in the roof are lovely and add to the quality feel of the tent.

The stability of our DLX500 with it's steel poles was tested during a severe storm in 2012 and I'm relieved to say it passed with flying colours! The inner-pitch first design is a disadvantage in bad weather and you need a large garden or garage to be able to hang it to dry it out if needed. Other than this I can't think of anything else that is a negative about it!

We brought our Vango aspen 500 dlx from brand new about 6 years ago now and we love it. Every year about this time we start to panic , because we know this isn't the easiest tent to pitch. But once its done it really is the most handsome tent on the site. Roomy and stylish and still after all these years people comment on how spacious and attractive it is .BIG THUMBS UP !

This tent is like a tardis and is perfect for long family holidays and having bought it second hand are into our second camping season with it, and agree with all the other comments about it's benefits. We like to think of it as a modern day yurt. It has so much headroom at 5'9' I can't even touch the inner roof in the lounge area.

Some key points are:

- Official Vango video covering the main features and great easy to follow pitching instructions for the Aspen range (500, 500DLX, 700, 700DLX) is available on youtube here http://bit.Ly/lgEz0z

- Takes two of us about an hour to pitch and peg out

- Steel poles, not flimsy fibreglass so will withstand the strongest winds as long as you bother to guy it down properly.

- Pitched inner first, but not really a problem as this is not a backpacking tent and most people will probably sit in the car till it stops raining before pitching it anyway. We did however have to dismantle it in the pouring rain, which meant the inner did get wet, but again not a problem as you have to dry the outer anyway before storing away longer term

- It has a full inner tent in the lounge as well, not just the bedrooms as most tents only have these days, this helps condensation build up and ventilation. Also makes it cosier a night with no chance of brushing against the damp/cool outer at night.

- Full sewn in groundsheet on the tent inner for lounge and bedroom, and fitted removable one for the porch, which is good with it being the cooking area and main entrance if wet as it can then be removed and easily shaken/cleaned and replaced back.

- The porch on the DLX version is a real bonus creating a great space for cooking and other general storage meaning the lounge is kept for lounging and can be kept clean and clutter free.

- We made our own carpet for the lounge by sewing two cheap fleece throws together from B&M Homestores, no need for the proper carpet, and use a tarpaulin with corners folded in as a footprint, both do the job perfectly, why pay more than you need to.

- The main tent bag is huge, very easy to get tent back in, but takes up most of the boot so we leave the bag at home.

We love it, so if you find one in good nick second hand I guarantee you won't be disappointed if you like space and luxury camping.

This tent is the best tent we have ever bought, we have used it many times. The tent its self is so big you would have to see it for your self, its ideal for families and children. It has plenty of doors with mess and windows it has two skins for warmth and no condensation ever. It sleeps 6 adults with ease and if you need the living space there would be room for 3 double air beds. The cooking area and porch door way is great, room for 3 tables and with the air to circulate it's great.

It can be up within 20 mins and thats even when the light is fading. The inner tent goes up first, then the outer tent and you don't need to tie it all on. The tent is perfect even in bad wind and rain. It does look like an igloo, but with steel framed bars - they are heavy but its not like you have to carry them around all the time.

This tent was expensive when we bought it but I would not sell it for £1000. The middle bedroom is ideal for some one disabled as theres plenty of room, we used it for getting dressed in, and you can stand up in the bedrooms. Perfect, in fact I don't think there is anything I would change about it. Apart from one thing if I could I would like it to last forever and ever

We have a 500DLX. This is an amazing tent!

Despite our difficulty in pitching (I'm short!), once it's up it's up.

We've just got back from a farm field near Keswick and just like last year the 'Lakes' threw everything at us but our Aspen stood firm.

Met a 700DLX on site as well (first time)

There's so much space, people want to come in and look, this year we treated ourselves to a raised king-size air-bed and it was swamped.

Tables, chairs, blow-up sofa, kids this one can take the lot and still leave you room to breathe

I've used this tent for 2 years now. Its brilliant. Very spacious and stands up to all weather conditions. I've only recently found out that it has a hanger for clothes. That goes to show the number of gimmicks are truly vast. I do pose one question. How many pegs does it need to fully erect. I have thrown a number away as they bent during a recent holiday on an all weather pitch.

My goodness! the positive comments about our 500DLX;

* wow, it's so spacious,

* you could get so many more people in here

* you have space for a table AND sofa! (yes we do)

The porch is great, no more muddy prints inside, the bedrooms are a great size, the wardrobe rail actually can hold your waterproofs.

All those little sewn-in pockets make such a difference.

We've just got back from a very wet & VERY windy Keswick and this tent took everything the elements could throw at us. We got back on site one evening to be informed by the camp leaders that some tents had to be rescued that afternoon. Our Aspen had just stood and as I checked around the pitch even the window flap guys (which I'd left open) had kept taut.

My only 2 niggles with the tent are:

*I can never get the porch groundsheet to sit nice and flat

*because the inner tent is so tight on it's poles we now have a slight rip on the two rear corner pole-clip flaps

I agree with all the comments posted before me. A great tent, well made, stands up well to the elements, loads of little feature that you didn't know you needed until you got them and it's massive.

This is five star camping.

Only downside I could see is that it is heavy if that bothers you, and I can't be bothered putting it up for less than 4 nights as there's only two of us and we have a smaller tent for shorter stays.

I love this tent (we've had a few). It's easy to pitch, and it fits back in its bag afterwards. Lots of room inside and the porch is great for cooking in. Holds up well in strong winds as we have recently found out. Would deffo recommend.
