3 Reviews of the Cabin 500

Just bought this as our first 'walk in' tent after camping in smaller tents.
Fabulous quality, easy to put up after an initial practice, great space for 2 of us without being too big. Easy for a 6' 1' tall person to walk in.
Only reason not quite a 10 is lack of footprint & carpet but see previous review for alternative.
Brilliant, love it.See the pics we've just put on.
We bought from simply hike for £379

The quality in the manufacture and materials stood out visibly in comparison to the other tents at the tent display swaying us from our intended purchase of an Outwell. We didn't know at the time it is made by the same company who make Outwell - Robens being their premium brand!
Having purchased the tent it is lovely to be in with semi circular side windows and flexible bedrooms. Heavy rain just rolled off the tent.
However there are one or two drawbacks to the tent , the main one being a lack of flyscreen on the main front door - inexplicable when all the other windows and bedroom doors have them. The first time we pitched the tent wasps flew in and we ended up sitting with the main door zipped up. It's not gloomy as the side windows are large but it seems a strange design choice.
The other problem is the tent is quite fiddly and tricky to pitch and strength is needed to get the poles into the fan shaped supports that structure the tent.
I bought the tent so that I could take my two children away on my own without our huge Outwell Vermont XL but I think I'm going to struggle even with a (sometimes) helpful teenager as I'm only 5ft tall.
Perhaps they'll address the issue of the flyscreen next year. Nonetheless a quality tent that delivers on overall design and performance.

One day all tents will be this good!
If you're looking for a good sized family tent (2-4 adults or 2 adults and 3 kids at a squeeze) that is strong and sturdy, has good living space, sewn in groundsheet, excellent headroom, great quality, less than 15kg and is easy to put up then the Robens Cabin 500 should definitely be on your shopping list!
Seriously, this tent ticks a lot of boxes - it should be the blueprint for all future family tents! The structure borrows heavily from another of my favourite tents (the Vaude Mk II) using a clip-on system for connecting the flysheet to the poles and this makes it really quick and easy to erect and take down. The clever design of the pole system also makes it very sturdy - it is totally free-standing and feels very robust even when not guyed out.
If you've previously seen or owned Vango, Outwell, Sunncamp etc tents then you'll immediately appreciate the jump in quality (and price) you get with the Robens. The poles are a light and strong alloy which is way superior to fibreglass poles and much lighter than steel. The flysheet is also superior quality with a 5000mm hydrostatic head and you can really feel the difference. The attention to detail within the tent is also excellent - all the components and workmanship are great quality.
The living space is large enough for table and chairs and has usable headroom right throughout the entire space. The inner tent has a 2/3 man divided with a zip and one side can be removed if you're not using it to give even more living space. The ventilation is good thanks to two large vents above the side windows, two more at the front and one at the back, all of which are very well protected from the rain. As with all polyester tents it does get hot in the sunshine though.
What really appealed to me about this tent is that the footprint is reasonably small and it is (comparatively) lightweight, yet thanks to the vertical front the inside of the tent is large enough to be very comfortable without feeling too big. Also, the built in canopy is fantastic for keeping the rain out when entering/leaving through the door.
I can't really fault it but if I was to be massively picky (hence 9/10 not 10/10) then a flyscreen on the front door would be nice and a hook for hanging a light in the living space would also be welcome although maybe not possible due to the construction.
One tip: they don't make a matching carpet or footprint so pick up an Outwell Oakland L carpet and footprint which fit almost perfectly.

Manufacturer's Description
This is the bigger version of the Cabin tent for up to five people, who can settle down for the night in our extremely popular universal inner tent. You can use it as one big room, close the zip partition and make it into two separate cabins, or, if you need more storage room, one half of the inner tent can also be removed. Both models have a completely closable floor sewed onto the fly sheet, which seals off the tent from wind, bugs and dust.
