4 Reviews of the Cabin 600

We really liked this tent - well thought out design and comfortable for a family of four, easy to pitch - but unfortunately it didn't survive a Lake District campsite in August! despite Robens' claims about wind resistance, two of the guy lines came off the tent in moderate winds and then because the tent is so well sealed it effectively turned into a giant box kite and took off, never to be seen again. Robens and Winfields, the retailer, both deny there was any fault with it which suggests this might be an issue to watch out for.

I love this tent!

We are a small family of a couple and baby. We bought this tent with old style extension last year and have used it half a dozen times. It's great quality, easy to put up, packs away small, good design and perfect size for us!

Without extension its very quick and easy to put up and plenty of space. I love the windows as makes it so light. It's a good height and even by 6'4' husband finds it comfortable. One of my favourite features is the large door with canopy so when it's warm can get plenty of air in but when it's raining it doesn't drip in the tent.

The only downsides are that it doesn't have an entry point for EHU and doesn't have hooks or loops for hanging lights.

The extension is perfect for longer trips to extend the living space. However it is a bit fiddly to put up without sagging. I'm not sure I'd be comfortable using it in high winds, but it has been fine in a thunderstorm.

Overall it is amazingly quick and easy to put up, if only it had more features for electric hook up it would be perfect!

Let me start by saying I like this tent. It is very spacious for 2 persons, as in our case. It would be acceptable for 4 people, but you would have to be on intimate terms with the 5 people to have them sharing the tent. It is not a 6 berth as advertised.

With pitching the tent you need to be relatively tall person with strong fingers to fasten the clips onto the two large poles as shown on the Youtube video (for the very similar Robens Vista tent).

Regarding arm and wrist strength, you require it in good measure to fit the pole supporting the front hood into the connector on the larger poles - it is quite tricky. Watch the erection video on Youtube carefully to see the determination shown by the demonstrator when doing this.

One unexpected problem we had when first taking down the tent was that, with all the pegs and poles removed, the tent was still upright - it looked like a half inflated hot air balloon. Getting the air out was a problem; with all the zips closed fully, this tent is nearly air tight! The solution was to leave the zips open a little. It also suggests that it is important that when sleeping, some air vents must be left open, particularly if 4 or 5 people are using the tent.

Now to the positives. Some tents are difficult to get the flysheet taut all over when erected, but the Cabin 600 is not in this category, excluding pole difficulties it pitches very well. The materials and equipment used in the tent are of good quality and the workmanship looks and feels solid. A lot of thought has gone into the tent and there are some nice touches. There are stacks of ventilation panels that can be opened or closed according the wind conditions - the one at the back of the bedroom is enormous. The windows are large but they can be partially or fully covered. The space within the tent is all very useable. The black material on the bedroom ceiling is useful but should be extended down the sides. The sun is low in early morning creeps in the sides.

The tent is expensive but discounted prices can be found online which make tent more economically attractive.

As another small bonus we can get the rolled up tent into the tent bag with ease when packing up - a novel experience.

We bought this tent for 2 adults and 2 kids and we love it. Previously we've always had backpacking tents so this is a big step up for us. After the first time, which was complicated so don't do it when you are hungry and tired like we did, it has always been quick and easy to erect and take down. A tip is to leave the door open when doing this otherwise the tent inflates.

We have been very impressed with the good quality construction and find it a very comfortable tent. We camp a lot in Scotland so need a tent which can stand up to touch weather and this tent gives me confidence.

I love the sewn in ground sheet as we are now midge proof and warm in the evening.
