1 Reviews of the Challenger 2
By: SCARFFO Reason: I own(ed) one Made in: 2014 Rating:
A stylish sturdy tent with some nice features. I bought it for a silly low price, so as I already own a Robens tent I picked this one up.
All in all a good tent.
I did find it a bit tricky to set up, to my mind the largest pole seems ever so slightly too long which makes it hard to fit into the ring and pin, and also means the pole bends out slightly as it reaches the floor. I think it maybe just a problem with mine and not a general fault. It still is very useable and spent some nice nights in it so far. I'm sure that I could probably set it up better if I spent a bit more time doing it!
Now for its good points.
It is very sturdy and stable when fully guyed out. I have found it very waterproof and well ventilated which has resulted in being the first tent I have owned with a zero condensation problem, absolutely bone dry even in very damp weather. Excellent effort.
There is a reasonable porch area & I love the little storage area at the back which is accessed by means of a zip from the inner tent. The gear rope is handy as well.
Robens use cheerfully yet subtle colours for the inner tent which I have found very pleasant without being overpowering. I feel this is something often overlooked in smaller tents. Its good to have a cheerful place to retreat
To when the weather closes in.
Apart from the pole issue, which I can easily rectify if needed, the build quality is very good. Although not the lightest tent, I'm glad Robens have made a priority of using good quality materials. The rain flysheet for instance is a lot thicker than other tents I own. So function over weight is sometimes a good thing.
All in all a very useable tent with few problems and many plus points. I like it overall, with only a slight niggle over the pole issue.
But then I did get it for an incredibly low price, so I feel a bit embarrassed to go on about this issue to much.

Manufacturer's Description
The Challenger uses our tried and tested side-entry sloping tunnel design to provide stable and comfortable sleeping space with enhanced headroom for two people while minimising pack size and weight. Storage is maximised by offsetting of the inner tent to give extra porch space, and there is also zip access from the inner to an additional storage area at the foot of the tent. Mesh pockets and a gear rope add to storage options.
