2 Reviews of the Outback Tarp 4x4 m
By: Fules Reason: I own(ed) one Made in: 2017 Rating:
I used this tarp last year. It's good quality, lightweight, and as the previous reviewer says, versatile, with many tying points. It's worth putting a bit of time into experimenting with various ways of putting it up (and getting hold of some extra guy rope with tensioners and pegs!).
Unfortunately I can also second the previous reviewer's negative experience of Robens poles, one of mine started coming apart after only a few times of use. But don't let that put you off, the tarp is very good.

This tarp is really flexible, robust and useful. However it does not come with poles so you will need to buy at least 2poles separately. I bought Rubens Clip poles as a bundle with the tarp. Sadly, the poles were rubbish. I now use some cheap Vango poles and I am very happy with the combination. There are 5 tie points along each side which can take a pole or guy rope (or both). That allows you to pitch it in a myriad of different ways. This is significant as I have seen other big cotton tarps that have attachments at the corners and in the middle of the sides only so there are much less different ways of pitching them. Talking of pitching, the method illustrated by the manufacturer I have found does not work well. Once I tried doing it different ways it worked much better.
I used the tarp as a sun shelter and cooking shelter. Sometimes I have it separate from the tent, sometimes attached. Once I had found a way to pitch that worked for me it was brilliant. For completeness, I use 2 poles most of the time but have 4 poles available for more complicated pitching.

Used in conjunction with a tent or on its own, the durable Outback Tarp offers flexible fast pitching sun and rain shelter. The large 4 x 4 m tarp is a versatile performer with many potential uses beyond its primary camping focus - in the garden, for picnics and with barbecues for just a few. Used with our telescopic poles, its curved sides add a dash of style to outdoor living whilst the reinforced guying points and strong webbing loop hangers ensure stability.
