5 Reviews of the Cuban 6 ZG
By: Elaiine Reason: I own(ed) one Made in: 2013 Rating:
We actually bought this tent second hand after finding our expensive cotton Outwell was leaking, :-( and needing a replacement - fast.
Our criteria included;
Spacious - tick,
Tall (we have a 6'6' son) - tick,
No sloping doors (which let lots of rain in) - tick,
Strong poles (no more blinking fibreglass!) - tick,
Front porch style canopy - tick,
Lots of light - tick, and
An all in one but also removable, groundsheet - tick.
The only problem we have is matching up the scaffolding(!) poles as the spring links have been broken and some arches appear to be larger than others making putting it up a bit of a chore, until we have the time to sort it out once and for all.
That said, it isn't a fault of the tent, just operator error!
All in all, we are very pleased with our Royal Cuban 6.

We love this tent very easy to put up (i can do it with my 10 year old daughter in under an hour) secure the pegs along the back put canopy pole in and secure with main guide then feed each pole in one at a time then secure tent - lots of space inside sleeping areas big we use camp beds. Other tents might cheaper but this will out last them.

Excellent tent! very spacious for a 6 berth.
We decided after years of buying cheap tents to bite the bullet and buy a really good (expensive) tent. We suffered a really bad experience on Bodmin moor where our old tent didnt make it through the night but out friends tent which was standing strong next to it did. It was a Royal. So that made our choice of make of tent easier
We seen the Royal Cuban 6 set up in ABC camping in Swansea. It looked like a castle next to the others and to be honest you can see the quality. I searched online and got it for £399 so I felt it was a bargain. We've now had 2 (fairly bad weather) seasons in it now and we have always felt really safe in it.
We a choice of 1 big bedroom and 1 smaller bedroom OR 3 smaller bedrooms. It also has a useful side room (possibly toilet or wardrobe space).
The really thick poles. Poles arent the word really more like scaffolding haha makes the tent solid. There are 5 'scaffolding' going through/ over the tent
It took us no time at all to put up (without wind, cos its like a parachute otherwise)
The extended front open porch is real bonus and this was something I looked for in a tent because I always like to be outside without being umm outside
Couldnt recommend this tent enough

We love our Royal Cuban 6zg. This was our first proper investment after two smaller cheaper tents and realising camping was for us.
We are a family of 4 and we wanted a tent that provided a good living space area, ideal sleeping arrangements and a canopy. The Cuban was idea because it is 3 bedrooms which will each sleep two single airbeds, but you can roll one of the bedroom walls up to provide a much larger bedroom which housed our double camp bed and gave lots of surrounding room.
We never pitched the tent before our first camp in it but the staff in the camping shop where we bought it were really helpful in providing some good advise for a speedy pitch. We bought the tent, footprint and carpet for £420. We pitched the footprint then pegged out the front and back of the tent. We then fed through the steel poles at the front of the tent, when this was fed through we then pegged in the guy ropes and worked our way back doing each pole and guy rope bit by bit. We were able to pitch the tent in approximately an hour.
We used the side utility area for our toilet and it comfortably fits a loo plus more area for storage. There are lots of pockets for storage in the main living area of the tent along with the option of plenty of windows, or mesh windows for airing of the tent.
The canopy is great for a cooking area and provides cover if required.
We really would recommend this tent.

We bought this tent for our first venture into camping on the basis that if we were going to go camping we needed to be comfortable and have all the room we needed etc.
The first time we put it up it took us ages, but the second time was quicker and we left the zipped groundsheet attached. It was straight forward to put up, the poles are spring linked so that was easy, the hardest part is lifting up first pole as it is definitely a 2 person job. Once up and pegged out this tent is extremely sturdy. The instructions are brief so I had watched a video of how to put up a tunnel tent as this is very similar.
The tent is massive, there are four of us and this tent suits us as it has 3 bedrooms so we can split the kids up and have one either side of us in the middle bedroom. The bedrooms are not huge but big enough for double airbed, not sure how you would get on with campbeds though. The bedrooms come in 2 separate units, and 1 of these can zip open into a larger 4 berth section. So, whilst we used both sections there is the option to have 1 or both up and also use as 4/2 or 2/2/2 or just 4 or 2/2 or just 2 configuration. The bedroom pods also have some handy pockets inside, so useful for torch, glasses, watch etc. We found we also had room at the end of the bed for a bag etc. Kids had loads of room spare with single beds in. There is also a cable point into one of the bedrooms as well.
The main living area is a really good size, so perfect for table & chairs, storage etc which would come into its own on a rainy day. There are also storage pockets in the main area too. You also have the side utility area for whatever you want it for, this also opens right up to use as another entrance if required. If we get round to buying a portapotti this is where it will be!
This tent has really large windows so it is lovely and bright and airy inside, you can also upzip one and leave mesh to help with air circulation.
The front canopy area is fantastic, it will keep the front entrance dry in bad weather.
We bought the groundsheet and carpet and I would recommend these, the groundsheet is great as it keeps the bottom of the tent clean. The carpet makes it cosy inside.
We found the tent easy to take down and have managed to get it back in the bag as well. The bag is a little disappointing, it is rubbish in fact and has no wheels as described on the Royal website. However this is a minor point and should not put you off the tent. The only other downside is the size/weight of the bags & poles. They fill up most of our boot and we are having to buy a roof box for other stuff!
All in all we are very pleased and would really recommend the Cuban 6, it seems a very well made tent and is spacious with plenty of useful features included. We won't grow out of this tent for a long while!
