2 Reviews of the Dayroom
By: Ailish Reason: I own(ed) one Made in: 2006 Rating:
It's a great dayroom. We can fit a table for 8 in it with plenty of room to get in and out of your seat. We've used it in wild weather at Shell Island and at home in the garden. We cooked in it, ate in it, washed up in it, basically lived in it and just used the tent for night time. I like the versatility of the three doors and three windows so you can keep the exposed sides closed but open the others for ventilation. Ours cost a bargain £69 on Ebay - I collected it in person and found great value in the shop.

I bought this to use as a kitchen tent. That may seem a little ostentatious but I find that those things that are called kitchen tents tend to be rather small. With the Dayroom I can get all the kitchen paraphernalia in and still leave room for two to four people; useful when the weather is foul and you don’t want to be traipsing in and out of a tent with a SIG living area and no canopy.
The Dayroom is hexagonal in shape and formed by external steel poles. Pitching can be tricky and needs two at least – or am I just incompetent? Three alternate sides can be unzipped and rolled up to form doors (one door can be made into a canopy-opening using poles that are supplied) and the other three alternate sides have transparent plastic windows that can be unzipped and rolled up revealing mesh for ventilation. A standard groundsheet completes the package.
There are just six guys, one from each corner of the hexagon. But, when secured with Deltas the tent withstood some very strong gusts with no problems; it forms a very solid structure.
For me it suits the purpose for which it was bought perfectly. The added bonus is that it can be used for other things: a garden gazebo and a shoe-storage area for the bouncy-castle at the rain-affected school summer fete are among some of the ways it has been used.
You can buy this Royal Dayroom with confidence. It’s not cheap; and for that reason I’m not sure, as I type this review, whether I can give it nine or the full ten stars – that is the only downside. I’ll just have to toss a coin to decide! But it is an essential part of our camping setup if we are away for anything longer than three nights.
