10 Reviews of the Montpellier 9

The big plus of this tent is the massive living space and the built in porch for wet clothes, muddy wellies and the stove. The down sides are it takes a long time to erect, you don't have any standing room in the bedroom pods and you definitely wouldn't be able to fit in 3 blow up beds. Once a double mattress is in, you have about a foot left for bags. This tent survived 6 days in torrential rain in Wales (when the floods happened last year) and we enjoyed the space we had with 6 of us in the tent. However on the last day (bearing in mind the extreme conditions) the roof (3000hh) withstood the rain but the water started coming up through the built in groundsheet (10000hh)under the tent carpet. We went home!

A good tent for a large family, when solved the putting up of the tent it comes easier next time round ,a very good sturdy tent and very spacious. The porch is a good size so you can put a unit in,the bedrooms are a good size it can be well ventilated when its warm by having all three exits open.It comes well packed in its bag for such a big tent its not that hard to pack away.

Just OUTSTANDING! Known to family and friends as Ghengis Khans Summer Palace. We have 3+2 kids and two springers. We do festival organising. We bought this tent for a holiday in Wales in 2005 , third one in a week, first & second could not cope with the atrocious weather we endured and had to be returned within a day or two! THEN we bought the Montpelier. Despite the weather not being kind at all, the tent stood up to all that was thrown at it and the holiday was a success, the huge living area helped so much. It's now 2011. The tent is still in excellent condition and has earned its keep many times over. Numerous times we have had parties of 20+ people in the tent, chatting till late. Pros - Full integral ground sheet, huge headroom, enormous living area, light & airy, superb door arrangement, easy to put up with two people, guy lines not needed if not too windy Cons? - Needs a big plot, 3 sleeping in a pod is too ambitious, porch area could be bigger for cooking. This is a superb tent and a credit to its designers and makers. And it's still going strong! Thanks Royal for the value you have given my family over the years.

This is a great tent with loads of room. If you get the carpet for the living area, its even better! Cooking can be done in the porch area, so you can be sheltered from the weather. The only problem is the slope of the porch, which, because its so steep, can be a bit difficult to reach the opening zips right at the bottom. Still, a great tent.

This is a fantastic family tent. It is spacious, light and airy. We love the variety of exits and entrances that can be used. The sky lights ensure that the tent feels bright and airy even on the greyest days (which we have had many). The tent has coped superbly in the most extreme weathers, no leaks or tears even in storm conditions. Only negative would be that if you use inflatable mattresses the bedrooms will not sleep 3, but there is plenty of sleeping space in the living area if required. Highly recommended!

We adore our tent! we replaced our old, somewhat basic 4 berth (halfords) cheapy tent with this one, as it appeared to solve all the design flaws we experienced with our original tent! and we wasn't wrong, the tent did not let us down, and we can't wait to get back out in it again! its huge, warm and dry (we have been lucky to erect in dry weather so far, so waiting to see how it pans out in the rain - but with more practise, we think it won't be too bad!)

We're a family of 3 at the moment, and find this tent to be perfect, it takes a little practise to learn how to put it up but if you make sure hubby read the right instructions then it doesn't take too long to figure it out!

Ours came with a huge sun canopy (we are yet to try this part out yet) and we're hoping more accessories will come on the market soon! oh, and we also figured out that what with erecting the inner first, which is all zipped up, helped to keep all them pesty flies out!

Having recently bought one of these we are loving it.It ticks all our boxes.3 bedrooms and massive living area but also with a separate porch. The bedrooms would be hard pushed to sleep 3 in each and with a double airbed there isn't actually room for much else. The living area is ace, we've had 4 adults and one child sat around a table and been more than able to walk around comfortably.

Its coped perfectly well in some pretty bad storms and we have got pitching it down to about half an hour if you don't include the pegging out time.

My only reason for scoring a 7 is I am very disappointed to find that we cant buy a canopy. We cant buy a carpet. We cant buy a footprint etc etc.It seems Royal have designed the tent and then just left it at that.

We are a family of 5. Done several camping trips now including storm, thunder and lighting. Very strong and durable. Lots of pockets. 3 main sleeping areas (can stand up in them also). Great skylights. Would highly recommend this to anyone.

Fantastic easy to erect 9 man tent. Only really suitable for 6 adults, but you could use centre area as sleeping space.I found the inner part stronger then the tents where the inner part hangs up inside the outer. We had one of the other types before and found they ripped easily with the kids running in and out, so, if yours are boistrous like ours the Royal tents are a good choice. The only problem with this type of tent is putting inner up before outer when it is raining

This is a great tent we are a family of 4 plus dog. The living space is great with extra doors/ windows and we love the sky lights. It can be fun getting the fly sheet on as it is so high but once you have done it a time or two it is ok. We have never had any leaks and was camping last summer in some of that lovely rain. I would recomend this tent to any one.
