6 Reviews of the Tampa 6
By: Dozie77 Reason: I own(ed) one Made in: 2011 Rating:
Have just purchased this tent as a weekend tent as our other beast of a tent was too big for weekend use. We Got a fab deal of brand new tent, footprint and carpet for £199. And what a bargain that was! Not only did it reduce packed car down and take only 30 mins to pitch it has just stood up to the tail end of tropical storm Bertha! Admittedly we fared quite well. (Not windy just torrential downpours) but we were warm and cosy in our tent and not too worried at all.
Pro's: tent was spacious for us 2 adults and 2 children (3&10)
Stood up to elements well
Easy to pitch.
Loved the ventilation and windows.
Loved the bedroom (we don't use the hanging dividers)
Loved the side porch.
Loved the choice of doors
Loved the soft carpet
Loved storage pockets.
Cons: wish Royal had made a canopy for this model. Or extension (for wet shoes and cooking!)
Zips on doors are really flimsy and can see them needing repair soon.
That's it really. The kids loved it! We loved it and survived a stormy weekend away in relative comfort! So pleased with our purchase.

I bought this tent as it had all the features I was looking for. Having owned a Cabanon (great tent but bulky and heavy packed down) and a Vango Aspen 700dlx (also great but as above and chilly in the bedrooms), we wanted to downsize slightly both pitched and packed in the car.
Our previous Vango was inner pitched first which we didn't like and that meant that the wind blew up the inside of the flysheet into the bedroom via the many windows and I wanted to be warm at night - the Tampa has a completely sewn in groundsheet on the outer flysheet, making the bedroom nice and cosy.
Erection is straightforward, easier than the Vango - I'm 5' so this is important!
I would say that unless 6 adults were sleeping on small airbeds and lying straight, the bedroom/s wouldn't sleep 6 comfortably. Myself and my husband on a double and 3 campbeds for our girls (12, 10 and 7) was cosy but not uncomfortable, but left nowhere for clothes storage, so clothes had to be moved in and out of the bedroom morning and evening.
I wanted indoor curtains, which this has, except for the side windows which is odd and a bit annoying, and I hadn't realised before we bought it. We were unable to see one erected before buying as although it's only last year's model, it's already discontinued.
The tent is very sturdy, withstanding high, gusty winds and rain being flung at it, but it was noisy and a bit alarming! Still - no snapped poles and the pegs all stayed in the ground.
It is a great weight and the inner bedroom and poles all wrap up inside the outer into one bag which is carry-able by my husband - big improvement for us, and more room in the car.
The carpet and footprint were also great - the carpet is so soft and warm and a luxury after a sliding picnic rug we had previously!
All in all, we're very happy with this tent and would even consider weekend camping with it - not possible with the Vango!

We have the Tampa 6 with footprint. Didn't bother with the carpet as didn't seem like good value, if it's cold, just chuck a blanket down and sit on that!
We are very impressed with our Tampa 6. Favourite features are sewn in groundsheet, height (I'm 6'4' and can easily stand up), small porch and the general space inside.
It is fairly easy to put up, although there's no getting away from the fact that it is large and there's a lot of pegging to do. It can be put up by one person, but only if the wind is very calm, else it's a two man job.
If I were to change anything, I would have better / more ventilation for when it's hot, more pockets / storage and the ability to open and close the window covers / blinds from the inside (I've seen it on Outwell tents, I think).
Other good features: Small zip for Electric Hook Up cable to enter the tent, velcro cable run and hanger for a light in the centre. Dividers for the bedroom, although they only clip on in a few places, so very little privacy (we don't use them anyway with 2 adults and 2 young kids under 5).
In use, we most recently did 3 nights in very heavy rain and strong winds (so strong that when we were putting it down and removed the guys, it instantly inverted the poles and blew the tent in on itself, hopefully it's ok.) and it was up to the task. No leaks (apart from some drips off of the toggles used to cover up one window) and very little wind inside the tent, so we were warm, but it was noisy!

We purchased this tent in September 2010 along with a carpet and footprint. We have used it twice so far and are pleased with the performance of it, it has stood up well to high winds at night and we have had some quite heavy rain and have had no leaks. It takes a bit of getting use to when putting it up , and you need two persons to put it up. I would recommend buying the footprint ground sheet as it keeps the bottom of the tent clean. The carpet is good but the foam backing splits on the underside so I suggest taking shoes off before entering tent (if this is possible
Wwe go camping with 2 adults and two children (under 10)and we have plenty of room. We use two double air beds in bedroom and there is still a small gap in between to walk through. There are two electric entry points in the bedroom which is useful. There are three bedroom dividers but these are just thin sheets hanging (we don't use them). There is one cable entry point in the main tent on the left side(why not one each side?) and we have struggled with our 10 meter cable to the entry point. The SIG it great no bugs or drafts, also pleased with light point and cable tidy in main dome area of tent. I would certainly recommend this tent, just wish royal would make a canopy extension for it as they don't at the moment.

I bought this tent in November for the bargain price of £200 for the tent, footprint and carpet. We have just returned from our first 4 day trip and are very pleased with our purchase. We are a family of 2 adults and 2 children (7 and 4)and found the tent to be very spacious, both for living and sleeping. There is plenty of room to fit a 4 seat fold-up picnic table and table with cooker in the living area. The bedroom (subdividable) was fine for us but could perhaps be a bit cramped for 6 adults. The 'dome' nature of the tent appeared to make it very stable, there was little movement or 'flapping' in the high winds we experienced.
The zips and general construction of the tent appears to be of good quality and the overhead pockets very useful. Headroom should be fine for all but the giants amongst us! I cannot comment on waterproofing as fortunately it didn't rain. We found it to be quite straightforward to erect - about 25-30 minutes after 2 practice runs.
I would certainly recommend this tent on our experience so far.

Very easy to put up nice size easy to pack away and can stand up to lots of rain and winds. Light weight. Recommend it to small families. Lot of room in front porch area. Can get carpet and ground sheet for this tent good height dome gives it extra strength in winds. Takes a bit of getting used to putting up, 3rd time got it up in 20mins and down in fifteen
