2 Reviews of the Tucson 4 SG

We bought this tent (a lot cheaper than the rrp might I add) and as first time campers. A family of four. I was nervous about pitching it do we did a dummy run in a big garden. Pitching on the day was easy and manageable and we were quite pleased with how uncomplicated it was. It took us about 40 odd minutes including all the guylines which was probably the more time consuming part. It was more than enough for a family of 4 space-wise! The main area was big, the main porch was big and we tended to bring in the kitchen unit at night and put it there and all the shoes and bags got put there too. There is another porch which we didnt really use but if we get a toilet in the future then I think it would be a great 'bathroom' area. Really happy with the size especially considering we paid just over £200. Cant recommend it enough - we found no faults with it whatsoever.

It's a great tent for longer trips. The two built in porches are a huge bonus as one takes the storage, the other acts as the entrance/dumping ground for wet clothes. Both porches have attachable 'sewn-in' (manufacturer's description) ground sheets with lips all round so that they keep the water out rather than most porch extensions that have no ground sheet.

The living room and bed rooms are set up vis a vis so you get a bit more privacy from the children. These areas have a genuinely sewn-in ground sheet and we've had no leaks.

It is 'only' 4 berth. But it's a genuine 4 berth rather than a manufacturer's 5 berth based on the average UK 6 year old. If you wanted to sleep more, 2-3 people would fit in the living room comfortably with plenty of storage in the porches to avoid too much faffing with packing up beds when everyone wakes in the morning.

It takes us 40 minutes or so to get the tent erected (including all ropes pegged). That's comparable with how quick I'd expect to do a 5 birth tunnel plus side extension. As with all tents, the more you use them, the easier it gets to pitch.

If Royal ever updates the design, they could consider how to make it suitable for fly-first pitching. But we've pitched and dropped this in the rain several times (will we ever have a summer again?!) and the inner dries by the time the fly is up and the tent is erected.

They could also consider making an optional inner tent for the back porch I guess. That way those that decide they wanted an extra 2 person bedroom at the expense of one porch could do so.

But these are minor points/suggestions.

I would recommend this for anyone with children up to late teens, or a pair of couples who like each others' company but not enough to be separated at night only by a bit of material. You'll get plenty of room and plenty of storage while away.
