1 Reviews of the Sibley 600 ProTech DD
By: Becca77 Reason: I own(ed) one Made in: 2017 Rating:
This is a lovely tent! We were looking for something that would be suitable for our family of 4 living in Stavanger, Norway, to use for weekends away as well as longer summer holidays in Norway and abroad. We were initially looking at the standard Outwell inflatable family type tents in polycotton as we wanted something easy to pitch, ideally by one person, that would cope well with the local climate (frequently cold, wet and windy even in summer) but even with our budget creeping up (from under 1000 ukp to 1500ukp) we were failing to find anything that really ticked all our boxes and gave us the wow factor that wasn't well over what we wanted to spend. Then we came across the Sibleys and it was love at first sight!
A little more research showed that they were a surprisingly practical option they:
Are easy to pitch, my husband can put it up while I corral the kids ;)
Are canvas so much better insulation than the standard polyester and being breathable you don't get condensation.
Have a zipped in groundsheet to keep water and bugs out and heat and kids in.
Are spacious! We chose the 6m diameter tent which has a maximum height of 3.5m so even my 6ft2 husband doesn't feel cramped and the kids have tonnes of space to play (important if the Norwegian weather is doing it's worst outdoors).
Have the all important WOW factor, it is beautiful inside and out.
Having become smitten we spent a lot of time researching all the different options out there. We came to the conclusion that we needed it to be as hard-wearing as possible with thick canvas and groundsheet so as to extend our camping season as much as possible and give us something likely to last many years. This reduced our options to a few suppliers (Belltentuk, karma, pukka and canvascamp who we eventually bought from) and knocking out a few others I really liked (especially Soulpad who were really lovely to chat to over email and gave us lots of great advice). What swung it for us in the end were the mesh walls, we loved the idea of being able to roll up the canvas walls and zip in mesh walls to keep the private feeling of a tent whilst maximising ventilation and keeping kids in and bugs out! The double doors are also a bonus giving more full height space and the option of a main entrance at the front and a way to a camp kitchen out the back if we choose.
A few notes on the tent after our first pitch.
It is very heavy, 60kg total, 47kg of which is tent + groundsheet. My husband managed but if I were to pitch it I would need to carry the 2 bits separately. We separated them when taking it down and plan to carry them separately next time to make things a bit easier.
It is very wide! 6m diameter means about 8m once the guy ropes are out. To allow us to minimise the space used (and fit it in our garden if we need to!) we bought these short guy poles https://www.Canvascamp.Com/en/accessories/sibley-accessoiries/short-guy-poles.Html that reduce the length needed so you can take the guy out at the correct angle to the pole then angle it more sharply to the ground. We haven't tried them yet though as we had plenty of space at our first site.
You need space to dry it out at home if you need to take it down wet. It actually dried out remarkably quickly in the sun after a wet night but we have it draped over a banister now to get it bone dry before storing.
All in all it is a lovely tent, it rained heavily overnight our first night out in it and we stayed perfectly dry inside despite not having weathered the tent before using it (canvas tents need to be soaked or weathered so the fibres swell and close any small holes around stitching etc). The temperature dropped to around 8-9 degrees and we stayed snug (admittedly in several layers with duvets and blankets) and it was lovely to wake up to the warm glow of sun through canvas. We have ordered the optional inner tent but that was out of stock so they are sending it in November so that should help make things cosier overnight.
Finally, we were very impressed with Canvascamp.Com, we got prompt replies to all queries before buying and they made the inner tent available for back order for us so we didn't have to pay extra postage to order it when it was in stock. The postage was expensive, about 130 euros to send our entire order (tent and poles(2 packages), short guy poles, canopy and inner tent which will arrive later but cost 5 euros to 'send' in this order as opposed to 48 euros on it's own!) from Belgium to Norway. We ordered on the Tuesday afternoon and the shipment was in Norway on the Thursday morning (though for some reason, probably related to Norwegian customs we got one package on the Thursday, one on Friday, one on Monday and the final part on Tuesday!)
The tent costs 1199 euros but that includes local VAT of 21% so at the time of writing that is 1067.11 euros or 942.31 pounds before VAT or 1130.72 pounds inc VAT so it is definitely not the cheapest option but with our criteria and climate and with the wow factor and a good feeling about the tent and the company we felt it was the best option for us.
To sum up, amazing tent, a real head turner and great service from the supplier so all in all we are very happy campers! :)

The groundsheet is made out of PVC and weighs 650 g/m² (i.e. 1.19 lbs/ 10 ft²). The sides easily roll up to let the wind pass underneath on hot summer days. zipped-in removable mesh wall (double wall). The corners of the doors have a flap that allows power cables into the tent without having to make a hole or affect flood proofing. Can be fitted with our specially designed Sibley tent stoves or with your own stove and an Exit I connecting piece. Our tents are European tested to BS5852 standards. This is the cigarette test which shows that the tent will not ignite when burnt by the likes of a cigarette. 4 windows complete with integrated mosquito nets. Takes 1 person only 10 minutes to pitch. Beautifully made quality built. Double stitching all around and reinforced key points. All packs down into a matching canvas bag
