1 Reviews of the Solaris
By: Aginoth Reason: I own(ed) one Made in: 2009 Rating:
Purchased in Jan 2010.
2009 Model Skandika Solaris II, paid £349 for it.
Put up for first time last weekend, 21st May 2010 for a 2 Night Stay in Somerset.
Weather was Hot and Sunny.
Initial set up of tent was relatively easy despite relying on instructions poorly translated from German. Took around 90 mins to put up, but this included working put the instructions and tying on all the guylines. I expect it will take around 40 mins to put up normally.
Took around 30 minutes to take down.
Can't talk about water resistance as we had a dry and sunny weekend, the tent opens front and back allowing for a through breeze that kept the interior down to a reasonable temperature in the blazing sun (28 C outside).
Overstressed one pole section putting the tent up, my fault, it cracked longitudinally, but remained usable as door pod frame, although it will need changing for the next put up.
Colour coded poles makes putting up the tent simple, but a bit of brute strength is required to locate securing pins in pole ends after inserting into guides.
Fly sheet sewn in so no insects, 4 internal pods were fine for 2 in each, if a bit cosy. Well ventilated and no internal condensation in the morning from 6 bodies.
Packed back into supplied bag easily, easy and intuitive to fold up for storage.
Spare guys, pegs, and repair kit came with the tent.
This is our first modern tent, after a decade of camping under real canvas and we weren't disappointed for the money we paid.
