4 Reviews of the Toronto 8

Went camping with my 5 children for 2 months last year, loved the tent there was more then enough room for all of us and a lot of camping gear. It rained a good bit as it does in Ireland and not 1 leak. I'm changing my tent this year but only because I'm getting one thats sewn-in. The only bad thing I'd have to say about the skandika toronto is the fact that its not sewn-in, other then that it was perfect, well worth the 100 euro I paid for it on ebay.

I bought the Toronto 6 from Amazon for the bargain price of £125 and wasn't expecting too much. We're not 'professional' campers and only intended to use the tent once or twice a year.

We are so delighted with it that we now go 6/7 times per year from early spring to late autumn and it hasn't let us down, even in torrential rain and gale force winds! There was some leaking from the rings holding the sleeping pods as a previous review mentioned. We also contacted manufacturer direct and they sent seam sealant, which fixed the problem. I can't fault the manufacturer, they responded quickly and followed up to check the problem had been remedied.

We're a family of 6, (4 kids ranging from gangly teenager to 6 yr old) sleeping pods are large enough for a double airbed and 2 adults, also the living space is huge. There's enough room for cooking area, picnic table and all the other bits a pieces you need.

The Toronto 6 is also very easy to put up. We were totally new to camping and had it up and pegged out within half an hour (in a strong wind).

I don't have any experience of the more expensive brands but would highly recommend this tent. If you're on a limited budget it's good value for money. We are now addicted to camping and we will be using it for many short breaks and weekends this year.

Good basic tent. Withstood some high winds although front entrance flapped about a lot. The sleeping pods are small. Three man pods only big enough for two with air beds and two man pod for one. Take this as a five man tent. Living area large though which is huge bonus! Very easy to put up and pack away in bag. Little extras like organizer rack and hook to hang a light very useful.

We found that the poles supplied to secure the door open as a canopy were too short to be used for this purpose. Also the spike broke off one of them and was left forever in the ground!

I've seen a lot of negative comments about Skandika tents in general and I'm not sure the 'posters' have ever used one.

We bought a Skandika Toronto 8 in July on ebay and took it to the 'Shrubbery' in Devon to try it out before we took the grandchildren away in it. It had a baptism of fire over the 3 days we were down there. Torrential rain, high winds (and some sun)!

It withstood the first 2 nights of wind and rain, but on the third day we suffered leaks from all three seams which the bedrooms hang from. Each ring the bedrooms attach to had water dripping from them! In view of this and the fact that our airbed was anything but! We gave up and came home.

On return we e-mailed the seller in Germany and explained the problem, enclosing pictures of the water falling off the rings. To my delight they were really helpful and immediately offered us a part refund and some seam sealant, or a replacement outer tent. We opted for the replacement outer tent and they duly sent one over. Unfortunately they mistakenly sent us a Toronto 6!

We contacted them again and explained the situation. They once again acted swiftly and immediately dispatched the correct outer tent, telling us we could keep the Toronto 6! The tent arrived within 3 days just in time for our holiday.

However we decided to take the original tent having waterproofed the seams as we didn't think the other one would arrive in time and we needed to pack the car 3 days prior to leaving due to work!

We arrived in fantastic weather but within 2 nights the weather had deteriorated to a torrential downpour throughout the night. Although we were concerned, the tent stood up well to the wind and rain, no leaks at all and very secure in the wind!

The tent itself is very spacious with a lot of headroom, easily accommodating 2 adults and 2 grandchildren, with plenty of room for tables, chairs, camp kitchen, wine rack (essential), and associated gear. Bedrooms are large and would easily accommodate 3 children but not 3 adults.Look at this as a 6 man tent rather than 8.

We put this tent up in our garden first (having not been camping for around 20 years). It went up quickly and easily once we'd worked out what the 'round rings and spikes' were for! Don't remember those from 20 years ago!

All in all we love this tent, easy to erect, extremely spacious living area and good looking although not so large as to exceed average pitch size.

One other thing if you buy a Skandika tent. The after sales service from 'outdoorshop-uk' REALLY is fantastic. They DO care and apart from the mistake with the Toronto 6 really pulled out all the stops to help us out.

Manufacturer's Description

Toronto is a great tent for your group or family vacation.

Thanks to the colour coded poles it is a child’s play to pitch the tent, which even withstands the strongest winds.

The entrance can also be used as a sun-roof. The roomy middle part of the tent provides ample space for baggage, groceries and everything else needed when camping.

With 6.5 ft headroom you no longer risk a stiff neck when spending some time in your tent. Due to the optimized ventilation system, and breathable tent material, the inner tent climate stays perfect at all times.

The poles are made of shatter proof fibre glass that you can rely on even in strong wind. With a water column of 3.000 mm the tent is absolutely waterproof. In addition, the PU coated Polyester is UV resistant and weatherproof.

The Toronto model offers 3.000 mm This also makes the tent UV-resistant and especially storm-proof..
