3 Reviews of the 5000-hybrid-G

I Bought this for its simple setup and simple it is, I can put it up on my own in about 10 minutes easily, the canvas is superb quality and after 3 years of camping trips it still looks brand new, it feels nice and airy inside even on a warm day and if you really want to let the air about it then you can roll up the sides and it almost looks like its hovering on the centre pole, great family tent as we also purchased the internal divider so we can have separate rooms as my boy gets older.

Is it expensive, yes, do you get what you pay for, yes. Top quality material that will last years, think of it as a long term investment you wont regret it, I even bought a 3m version for the motorbike events.

Bought this tent as I was hoping it would be easy/hassle free to put up on my own. At 5ft2' I can manage to put it up on my own. So that's a positive point, I love the feel of it, the openness, space, etc.

Downsides.I struggled with the zip in groundsheet and have had to ask for help on campsites to get the groundsheet zipped in, seems very fiddly and hard to start off. I'd need a separate groundsheet though as wouldn't be able to manage lifting one which was all together. Tent is very heavy. I got a second bag and stored the groundsheet separate from the main tent.

First time we used it it rained all week. Stayed dry all week. When we came to leave the tent now soaked through must have been twice its normal weight. Gave up trying to fold or roll it up and just stuffed it in the car, even that was nearly impossible. Took ages to dry out in the front room at home.

We got a quarter bedroom for ours which I'd recommend for warmth if you're camping at slightly cooler time of the year. For me and my daughter I wish we'd got a 4m one instead.

The soulpad 5000 hybrid with zip in groundsheet and genie. Very easy to put up - I can manage it alone. Copes very well with bad weather, but is at it's best in the sunshine when you can lift the skirts, or just unzip the vents around the bottom. Add the woodburner and it makes for very cosy camping. The inner sleeps 4 easily and it can be repositioned so that you can still use the stove. The groundsheet is attached using 3 separate zips, so you can create an inlet for the EHU cable. The downsides are: when the weather is bad, it is a bit too cosy for 2 adults and 2 children; there is very little capacity to organise stuff that is needed on a daily basis with kids, such as coats and wellies. We solved the welly problem by using a plastic box outside under a tarp, but still ended up with coats strewn everywhere. If you are a neat person you will not be amused! The genie hole for the woodburner, although it already has the flap attached, it still needs the hole cutting so go prepared with sharp scissors. You will also need to make holes for the bolts on the silicone shield to go through - very fiddly and time consuming, so don't wait until it's dark to do it!

All in all a lovely tent though - very happy with it.
