2 Reviews of the Hood River 3

Just returned from our first weekend away using this new tent. Slightly shorter than I remember in the shop display, but more than adequate for our needs. First night was extremely windy and rain lashed down. The tent was superb in these conditions and in the morning it didnt even need they guy ropes adjusting. Easy to set up by one person and equally easy to pack away. Carpet could be a little bigger and it slips about a bit, but looks the business. Headroom in the bedroom could be a little larger and if you are a little claustrophobic the Hood river 4 may be a better option for you. I found the tent was warmer than my previous tents. Everything's sewn in which is great. I would highly recommend as its really light when packed down. And it looks good too.

Although I generally camp on my own, I find the the standard 1 or 2 man varieties a little claustrophobic insomuch as there is nowhere to prepare food or sit in comfort in bad weather. I chose the Hood River 3 because it is a tent which is quite easy to erect on your own - took me less than 20 minutes start to finish.
The sleeping area is sewn in as is the groundsheet. The most important feature for me personally is that I can actually stand up in it and I am 1.76 mts tall. It is very spacious both inside the sleeping area and inside the general area. It may not be the prettiest tent to look at but during a recent 7 night stop in the North West of Scotland it was subjected to some serious wind blowing directly off Loch Broom. 3 tents on site were badly damaged or actually blew over. The Hood River 3 survived.
HOWEVER, due to the battering the tent suffered there was evidence of very slight fraying where the fabric had repeatedly been rubbing along the metal casings which connect the polypropylene farme. I must stress that the tent suffered a proper battering and the damage was minimal. The supplier - Yeomans - Replaced the tent, which was still under warranty, without any quibble. I was offered a refund, but have enough confidence in this particular model to want to stick with it.
