3 Reviews of the Breton 500 Deluxe

This tent was a replacement for our previous 5-berth (Royal Memphis) which somebody nicked. They did us a favour. I bought it in October 2017. Didn't get to use it until August this year, when I took it to the Northern Lake District. Great timing on my part I arrived just after the heatwave broke. I got the tent up almost single-handed (had to ask passing boy to hold a guy rope while I pegged one in) though I probably could have managed by myself. Simple to put up even though I managed to leave the instructions at home.

I used the smaller bedroom for storage and put my camp bed in the larger one. Plenty of space for at least another 2 adults as long as they didn't have a lot of kit. Being in the Lake District I was unsurprised to find the weather varied from boiling hot to pouring with rain in about 2 seconds flat. The tent took it all and not a drop or drip of a leak anywhere (though I didn't actually take out the bedroom pod to look behind it). The mesh doors were very useful, love that it was on both doors. Really appreciated the sun shade/porch at the front. I cooked under it and it provide useful shade as well as protection from torrential rain.

I packed up in pouring rain, chucked everything in the back of the car loose and drove home. Put the tent up in the garden to dry and it dried relatively quickly. It packed away in the bag easily. Absolutely no problem with the quality.

Negatives? 1. The extending porch isn't wide enough. It would be good to have it extend across the full width of the tent. 2.The living area is just a bit too narrow If there was 12 to 18 inches more depth in the living area this would be perfect.

Brilliant tent, just finishing three nights in an extremely wet and windy Norfolk Broads campsite and the tent hasn't missed a beat, stood up really well to the wind and not let a drop of water in.

The tent just really oozes quality, the zips seem that bit thicker, windows that bit stronger and I do like that Sunncamp put zips on their bedroom dividers, not just toggles. Clever use of a mixture of steel and fibre poles add to its strength, plenty of guys keep it's straight sides pointing up in the wind (as a bonus this gives a more vertical rear wall in the bedroom, as opposed to the more sloping wall usually found).

If I'm being picky I'd say it's a tad small for a genuine 5 berth tent, even if the majority of the 5 were kids, and I'd like the living area to be a tad bigger for 5. But for what we use it for it's perfect, just the two of us on those rare kid free breaks it's spot on, even if we took one with us, but I'd be using our Kalahari if we all went away.

Ventilation is great, the foldaway porch is a bonus (poles included), the inner steel poles really keep the tent rigid. We leave the bedroom in place and put up and down as one with no problems, even fits in the bag with no problem. Vertical front with the arch over means no wet puddles when going in or out if it's raining and mesh on both doors means those rare hot days are a little cooler inside. Easy pitch with two and I reckon I could do it on my own if need be, if it's windy raise the front pole first and have a guy in your hand ready to peg out.

So impressed with the quality in this tent I've already had a sneaky look at bigger Sunncamp tents to see what we'd replace the Kalahari with as and when that needs to be done. Should also add I bought this tent for £83 as an ex display from an Ebay auction on a whim, wouldn't be less happy with it if I'd paid retail.

Wow, what a fantastic tent! Was a dream to pitch having just three poles plus the canopy outside. We erected as one but the bedpod is removable should you wish. The two internal roof poles are very easy to use and keep the tent rigid. There is plenty of space in the bedpod for 3 x single airbeds plus baggage. 5 people would fit but only on camp mats/SIMs and very little baggage. The living area is plenty big enough as we also took our loo. We cooked just outside the front door which was easy enough. We did not try the additional front canopy as it did not rain. The large windows are fantastic and you get more views when the doors are just on mesh. This tent has been tested in the rain at home with not one drip out of place. As it was very foggy when we pitched, there was some dampness on the outside of our bedding in the middle of the night but all was dry come morning and we were not at all cold. Second night was totally dry. Probably aided by the fact that we opened the vent at the front by then. When this was done, ventilation was excellent. The bedpod can be split with a zip down divider. It is lovely and light at night due to the torchlight reflecting off the light coloured roof in the living area. We also think the tent looks good and our neighbours seemed to think so too.
